Major credit cards are readily accepted in Australia, New Zealand, and at major resorts in the Pacific. However, cash is required in smaller islands, villages, and markets, as well as for certain means of transportation. Australian and New Zealand dollars dominate as the official currency, and many of the Pacific Islands use this or an equivalent currency, such as the Fijian Dollar.
- Our Advice: It is advisable to carry a mix of cards and some cash. ATMs are widely available in urban centers, but they are hard to find on some of the islands. We shall discuss this later.
