Yes, absolutely, and this is a requirement for all EurotourClub visitors. Although Hong Kong has an excellent and modern health care system, health care for visitors is not free and is quite costly.
- Medical Coverage: Ensure that your policy includes high medical benefit limits of at least $100,000.
- Trip Protection: Cancellation, Interruption, and Delays: This coverage should be strongly considered.
- Adventure Activities: If your plans involve a lot of hiking, make sure the policy covers such activities.
Tipping is common, though not always expected, unlike in America. A 10% service charge is included on most restaurant bills.
- Restaurants: No tip is necessary if a service charge is already included on the bill. Otherwise, a rounded-up bill of 5 to 10 percent is suitable for good service.
- Taxis: Round the amount up to the nearest 5 or 10 HK dollars. It's not necessary to tip if paying in exact change.
- Hotels and Porters: HK$20-50 per bag is standard courtesy.
- Tour Guides & Drivers: For a private multi-day trip, a tip of HK$100-200 per day for a guide and HK$50-100 per day for a driver can be very liberal.
