- Welcome to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan's relaxed capital of wide avenues, leafy parks and Soviet-era buildings sitting beside Central Asian street life. Your trip begins with a 6 pm welcome meeting, so today is mostly about arrival, settling in and getting your bearings. If you land early, visit the State Museum of Fine Arts or start easy with samsa, the flaky meat-and-vegetable pastry that makes a very good first snack.
After the meeting, you may want to join your group for dinner. It is a useful chance to put faces to names before the route heads toward lakes, yurts and long mountain roads. -

Many flights into Bishkek arrive very early; if you want immediate check-in, book an additional pre-tour hotel night in advance. Regular check-in is 1 pm.
- This morning, explore Bishkek with your local leader and start piecing together the city's layered history. Visit Ala-Too Square, formerly Lenin Square, and hear about Manas, the national folk hero whose statue now stands there. Continue to Dubovy Park, where open-air art, old oak trees and Freedom Avenue give the city a softer, lived-in feel.

- Leave Bishkek and watch the scenery open up as you head toward Issyk-Kul Lake. By evening, arrive at Issyk-Kul, a huge alpine lake backed by snow-dusted mountains. - After breakfast, visit Kyzyl Tuu, a village known across Kyrgyzstan for yurt making. Many families here work in the craft, and an artisan family will show you how the round wooden frames, felt coverings and practical design come together. It is a hands-on way to understand why yurts are still so important in Kyrgyz culture.

If the road is closed, an alternative overnight stop will be arranged; in September and October, depending on conditions, the visit may become a day trip with an overnight in Kochkor.
- Set out along gravel roads toward Kyzyl-Oi, a small village tucked into rugged mountain country. This is one of the longer road days, so bring a book, music or a podcast and let the landscape do its work. The route passes coal deposits and follows the Kokomeren River, which eventually feeds into the Syr Darya.

Heavy rain can wash out the road near Kara Keche; if that happens, the group returns to Kochkor from Song-Kul and continues to Kyzyl-Oi from there, adding a couple of hours to the drive. Tonight's homestay is arranged with a local community-based tourism organization. Sleeping is multi-share, and the group may be divided among different family homes.
- Today is a full driving day through some of Kyrgyzstan's most open, cinematic scenery. Cross the Suusamyr Valley, a high steppe plateau around 2200 meters above sea level, where mountains rise around wide pastureland and yurts often dot the horizon.

- Start early with a visit to Sulaiman-Too Sacred Mountain, Kyrgyzstan's only UNESCO World Heritage site. Travelers who enjoy comfort above all else may find parts of the route challenging, but travelers who like texture, patience and real daily life will get a lot out of it.
Accommodation is sometimes basic, especially in yurts, homestays and guesthouses. Some bathrooms are shared, showers may be limited, and in a few places facilities are much simpler than a standard hotel. The experience is less about luxury and more about being close to the landscapes and communities you came to see.
This is an overland journey with several long driving days, sometimes on rough roads. The vehicles are small enough to reach areas larger buses may not handle, which also means the ride can feel cozy when the group is full. Photo stops and stretch breaks help, but patience is important.
The itinerary also includes time at altitude. Please review the medical and health information for this trip before booking, especially if you have concerns about altitude, long drives or basic facilities.
