Wild Roads to the Coast

No two overland journeys in Africa run exactly the same way. There will be early starts, long drive days and moments when weather, roads or borders shift the plan. That is part of this style of travel, and a flexible attitude will make the trip much more enjoyable.
This is a participatory overland adventure. You travel in a purpose-built truck, set up your own tent, visit remote areas and sometimes camp with very simple facilities. The trucks do not have air conditioning, but they do have sliding windows for airflow and big views. Optional activities are a guide only; prices can change and availability is never guaranteed.
Accommodation and campsite standards vary. Wi-Fi is not always available, bathrooms can be basic, and some camps may feel much simpler than what travelers are used to in the United States. Upgrades are sometimes possible locally, but they depend on availability.

Visa details are provided through Sherpa, a third-party service. The “Add connection” feature only shows transit visa requirements, not full entry visas. Additional service fees apply if you purchase a visa via Sherpa.

Most camping nights use two-person canvas dome tents with camping mattresses supplied. Routes in Africa vary by conditions, so the accommodation mix can change depending on location and logistics. In towns and cities, hotels are usually used because camping is not always practical.
Some stops may be on hotel grounds or campsites that also offer rooms or cabins. If available, upgrades may cost approximately USD 40-100 per twin room per night and are arranged locally, not pre-booked. Standards vary, so it is smart to view the room before purchasing an upgrade.
Campsites usually have facilities, but they may be basic. Toilet paper is often not provided, and showers may be simple, sometimes even cold-water hose-style showers. Wild camps, when used, have no facilities at all. Spare tents in the vehicle cannot be used unless a single supplement has been purchased.

Indaba Hotel is about 15 km from Lanseria International Airport and 40 km from OR Tambo International Airport. Rooms include air conditioning, tea and coffee facilities, complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi and private bathrooms.
EurotourClub can help arrange an arrival transfer. Please send your flight details at least 14 days before departure and double-check whether you arrive at Lanseria or OR Tambo. If a transfer is booked, your driver will wait at the Information Counter in the correct arrivals terminal with your name or a EurotourClub/local partner sign. Ask the driver to confirm your name, and do not travel with anyone who cannot verify it or asks for extra payment.
If you cannot find your driver, call or WhatsApp the local representative at +27 84 400 8896 or +27 84 40 08896. Official metered taxis from the airport usually take 30-60 minutes and cost around ZAR400-650. Ride-share apps such as Uber are also widely used in South Africa.
