If you arrive early (highly recommended), take time to wander along Nyhavn’s colorful waterfront, where pastel facades line the harbor like something out of a postcard. Stop by a trendy, industrial-style bar for a drink, or explore the iconic Tivoli Gardens — home to one of the world’s oldest rollercoasters.
For a more local vibe, head to Nørrebro, a lively neighborhood packed with diverse restaurants and creative energy. In the evening, meet your group at 6 pm, then, if you’re in the mood, head out together for an optional dinner to kick off your Scandinavian adventure.

It’s important to attend the welcome meeting at the beginning of your trip — during this time, your leader will collect your travel insurance and emergency contact details. If you think you might arrive late, please let your travel agent or the hotel reception know in advance. You can also check with reception or look for a note posted in the lobby for details about the meeting’s time and location.
  • In Copenhagen, the best way to explore is the local way — by bike. Glide through the city’s cycle-friendly streets and uncover hidden corners with ease, from iconic landmarks to tucked-away gems.
The afternoon is yours to explore at your own pace. Wander along the harbor, or visit the elegant Amalienborg Palace, still home to the Danish royal family. Step inside Frederik’s Church — the striking Marble Church — or pass by the historic courthouse at Nytorv Square and the red-brick City Hall.
If you’re drawn to culture, don’t miss the National Museum or the impressive Christiansborg Palace in the heart of the city. And in the summer months, why not embrace the Copenhagen lifestyle fully and take a refreshing dip in the city’s harbor baths alongside the locals?

  • This morning, discover Copenhagen from a different perspective. Join a local guide from Street Voices — a socially responsible initiative supporting people from vulnerable backgrounds — and explore the city’s lesser-seen side. Hear powerful, personal stories that offer insight into life on the margins, the everyday realities of locals, and the unwritten rules of the streets.
After this eye-opening experience, hop on a direct train to Gothenburg, where your next chapter in Scandinavia begins and you’ll settle in for the night.

  • Start your day with an early ferry ride from Gothenburg to Vrångö Island — the southernmost gem of the Gothenburg Archipelago. Home to just a few hundred residents and a proud fishing heritage, this peaceful island is all about raw coastal beauty, sandy beaches, and protected nature.
Take to the water on a guided kayaking experience (summer only), exploring the rugged shoreline and soaking in the fresh sea air. In the afternoon, slow things down with free time to wander the island or unwind in an optional floating sauna — a true Swedish experience.
Later, return to Gothenburg for a relaxed evening at your own pace. Sweden’s second-largest city is celebrated as one of the world’s most sustainable destinations — a place where modern living and responsible travel come together seamlessly.

  • This morning, travel to Alingsås — Sweden’s self-proclaimed Capital of Fika, where coffee is more than a drink, it’s a way of life. Joined by a local expert, you’ll hop between some of the town’s most beloved cafés, uncovering the story behind its rich coffee culture while sampling an irresistible spread of cinnamon buns, pastries, biscuits, chocolate truffles, and sandwiches.
Return to Gothenburg in the late afternoon with time to explore at your own pace. Trip moments from our travelers
Before you book you should know
Is this trip right for you?
Please pack light — you’ll be travelling on public transport where storage space is limited. You should be comfortable lifting your luggage onto racks, rolling it over cobblestone streets, and carrying it up and down stairs when needed.
Scandinavian weather can be unpredictable, with chilly evenings even in warmer months, especially at the start and end of the season. Be sure to bring layers, including a warm jacket, hat, gloves, and scarf to stay comfortable in changing conditions.
Scandinavia is known for its high quality of life — and prices reflect that. Dining out and optional activities can be costly, but your leader will share tips to help you get the best value throughout your trip.

Space is often limited in European hotels, so rooms may be compact. Central locations make up for this, but do note that double beds are not always standard — twin beds are more common and may be placed together. In some cases, bathroom facilities may be shared.
As time in Oslo and Copenhagen is limited, you may wish to extend your stay in either city. Speak with your booking agent in advance to arrange additional accommodation (subject to availability).

This trip offers a great introduction to southern Scandinavia, but it doesn’t include the Norwegian fjords. If you’d like to explore further, consider extending your adventure with longer itineraries such as Copenhagen to Northern Norway, Scandinavia & Baltic Circuit, or Complete Scandinavia. ✨
Visa information
Visa information is provided by Sherpa, a trusted third-party. The “Add connection” feature only shows transit visa requirements and does not cover full entry visas. U.S. citizens traveling to Italy for stays under 90 days typically do not need a tourist visa. Additional service fees may apply if you choose to purchase a visa through Sherpa. Always check official sources before traveling.
Accommodation
Accommodation: Hotel (3 nights), Pension (3 nights with shared facilities)
The accommodation listed in the itinerary is intended as a guide and may vary depending on availability. Occasionally, we may arrange alternative properties, but these will always be of a similar standard to ensure your comfort.
While we do our best to have rooms ready upon arrival — especially if arriving before standard check-in time — this cannot always be guaranteed. In such cases, you’ll be able to store your luggage and head out to explore your new destination, or sometimes make use of shared day rooms until your accommodation becomes available.
Flights
Please note: flight arrangements

We can assist with booking flights from any airport in the United States that is convenient for you. Occasionally, alternative routing or airlines may need to be arranged due to availability, but we will always ensure your flights align with your tour dates and provide the same level of comfort and reliability. Our goal is to make your journey to Italy smooth, stress-free, and perfectly timed with your tour.

Important notes

  1. Prefer your own space? A single supplement is available for all nights of the trip (subject to availability). Please contact your booking agent for more details.
  2. Due to recent regulations at Copenhagen Airport limiting taxi access to the city centre, private arrival transfers are no longer offered. Taxis are still available, but we recommend using Copenhagen’s efficient public transport system — including metro, trains, or buses. For detailed directions, please refer to your Joining Point Instructions.
