Wild days. Real family stories.

Safari, Teen Edition

This 12-day South Africa family safari is built for curious teens and parents who want more than a quick wildlife checklist. Start in Johannesburg with a Soweto cycling tour, then trade city streets for game reserves, Kosi Bay mangroves, candlelit camp nights in Eswatini, Kruger safari drives, a village homestay and the wide-open drama of Blyde River Canyon.

Why you'll love this trip

  • Big Five Energy
Track iconic wildlife across Hluhluwe, Hlane and Kruger with your crew.
  • Kruger Camp Nights
Sleep under a huge African sky, with wild sounds beyond the tents.
  • Soweto By Bike
Ride through living history, from Meadowlands to Vilakazi Street and Mandela's neighborhood.
  • Kosi Bay Kayaks
Paddle mangroves, learn Tsonga fish traps and look for reef color.
  • Village Homestay
Meet Phiring families and see daily life from the inside, not outside.
  • Canyon Finale
End with Blyde River Canyon, Three Rondavels and wild green views.
This is a hands-on family adventure, with early starts, camp chores, long drives and the kind of wildlife moments teens actually talk about later. It is simple, active and full of stories you cannot get from a resort pool.

Trip moments from our travelers
Before you book you should know
Is this trip right for you?
This trip includes plenty of time on the road in a group vehicle. Space can feel snug, and some drives are long, but that shared travel time is part of the family safari rhythm.

This is participatory camping, so everyone helps. Your support crew is there, but families should be ready to pitch and take down tents, help with food prep and clean up around camp. Malaria is a risk in some areas visited, so speak with a doctor before departure about medication and prevention.
Visa information
Visa details are provided through Sherpa, a third-party service. The “Add connection” feature only shows transit visa requirements, not full entry visas. Additional service fees apply if you purchase a visa via Sherpa.
Accommodation
Hotel (1 night), camping with basic facilities (6 nights), resort (1 night), lodge (2 nights), homestay (1 night).

This family trip includes participatory camping. Everyone helps with setup, food preparation and cleaning as the group moves from place to place. In some camping locations, upgrades may be available locally, but they are difficult to secure during busy seasons and school holidays and cannot be guaranteed in advance.
