Special information
Today's hike is approximately 5 hours at an elevation of 2000-2500 meters. Expect boggy and marshy sections and small creek crossings, so waterproof hiking boots are essential. A packed lunch is included for the hike. Conditions at camp are extremely basic, with no electricity, phone coverage or shower. Usually 3-5 families stay together at the camp. The Tsaatan ort is similar to a teepee, and you will sleep on the ground with a sleeping mattress, often with 4-6 people sharing one ort depending on group and family arrangements. There will be a toilet tent with a portable seat toilet for the group. Nights can be cold, so a heavy-duty sleeping bag, waterproof lightweight jacket and insulated jacket are essential. Locals use nearby creek water for cooking; your drinking water will be boiled first, and you may also bring purification tablets.
