Pyrenees Family Getaway: Fun & Adventure for Teens

Welcome to Andorra! Nestled on the southern slopes of the Pyrenees between France and Spain, this small country boasts stunning mountain scenery and is the perfect base for a 10-day active family adventure. Your trip kicks off with a welcome meeting at 5 PM, followed by dinner, and the evening is free to relax and get ready for tomorrow’s activities.

Then, drive about 30 minutes to the beautiful Cortals Valley for a full day of family-friendly activities. Start with an easy ride along Andorra’s only flat off-road track, taking in stunning views as you reach Engolasters Lake. At the far end of the lake, head to the zipline and treetop course, where a short briefing will prepare you for rope obstacles and thrilling zip lines through the trees.
After a picnic lunch by the lake, take in panoramic views from a scenic lookout over Andorra la Vella. Finish with an easy off-road bike ride back to your vehicles and return to Soldeu. For older or more confident riders, there’s an optional 5 km downhill road ride with switchbacks and breathtaking scenery.

Today’s travel time is about 1 hour. You’ll cycle roughly 16 km, with options to suit different skill levels.

Today, head out on your first mountain adventure in Andorra. It’s a short 10-minute drive to Entorn at the base of the stunning Ransol Valley Ridge. Start at 2,000 metres and hike 250 metres to Salamandres Lake, home to the small yellow-dotted salamanders that give the lake its name. For those seeking more challenge, continue up to the Ransol Ridge at 2,500m for panoramic views of the Andorran peaks. On the way down, pass the Roca del Home Dret and keep an eye out for native wildlife like griffon vultures. The trek finishes in the beautiful Incles Valley, crossing the Incles River before returning to the hotel around 3–4 pm. You’ll have time to relax, explore the village, or enjoy a spa nearby.

Hike Details: Expect a 12–15 km (7.5–9.3 mi) hike with 650 m (2,130 ft) of elevation gain and descent. For those seeking extra adventure, an optional 3 km (1.9 mi) extension takes you to a ridge above the lakes for spectacular panoramic views.

Cross into Spain today and take the high mountain pass over the Port de Canto, surrounded by stunning Mediterranean scenery at around 1,000 meters (3,280 ft). Stop at the Port de Canto lookout for breathtaking views of the Spanish Pyrenees foothills. Continue down to the village of Sort (“luck” in Catalan), where the family will gear up with wetsuits, helmets, life jackets, and paddles for an exciting rafting adventure. Tackle 14 km (8.7 mi) of exhilarating white-water on the Noguera River, one of Europe’s top five rivers for rafting, offering smooth yet thrilling stretches with multiple exit points. After riding over a weir and through the Olympic kayaking course, unwind at the rafting center, complete with a swimming pool, garden, and bar, before returning to Soldeu.

Today’s travel time will vary depending on the weather, and the rafting distance is approximately 14 km (8.7 mi). The rafting is beginner-friendly, but participants should be competent swimmers.

A support vehicle follows the rafting group, so anyone who doesn’t want to raft—or is too young—can ride along or relax at the center. Children must be at least 8 years old to participate; those aged 8–12 will raft on easier Grade I & II sections only.

Today, start your walk from the hotel and head into the nearby Incles Valley. Follow forested slopes and single tracks through woods filled with wildflowers, rhododendrons (June), berries (mid-summer), or mushrooms (September). The gently climbing trail leads to Cabana Sorda Lake, set beneath a dramatic semi-circular rock amphitheatre—perfect for a picnic lunch. Weather permitting, you can take a refreshing dip in the cold mountain water, spot snow in early summer, or watch local fishermen later in the season. After lunch, descend through meadows and woodland back to the valley floor and return to the hotel.

Your hiking distance today is 15km (9.3 miles) with 700m (2,297 feet) of elevation gain.

Today, set off on a family-friendly mountain biking adventure. After being fitted with a helmet and bike, take a short 20-minute drive to Port d’Envalira (2,408 m), the highest road pass in the Pyrenees, famous for its appearances in the Tour de France. Begin with a road descent, then follow an off-road trail to Abelletes Lake—the official border between Andorra and France—giving you a chance to have a foot in both countries.
A quick transfer back to 2,400 m starts the descent to Grau Roig Valley, where you’ll enjoy a packed lunch surrounded by mountains, pine forests, and the source of the Valira River. After lunch, continue off-road along 4x4 tracks following the Valira River all the way back to Soldeu. Finish at the local Caves Manacor market, where you can browse for souvenirs or sample local cheeses, hams, and spirits, before a short transfer back to the hotel.

Today’s cycling route covers approximately 20 km (12.4 miles), including 7 km (4.3 miles) of climbs. A support vehicle is available for anyone who prefers to skip the uphill sections, but adventurous riders can tackle the full route for the complete challenge!

Today is a free day to explore Andorra at your own pace. You could go horse riding, relax at the thermal baths of La Caldea, or try ferrata climbing – a thrilling activity using rungs and steel cables to navigate rugged terrain (suitable for those with a head for heights and good fitness). Other options include cycling, mountain biking, or canyoning. If you prefer to take it easy, simply soak up the Pyrenean sunshine or enjoy some duty-free shopping.

After breakfast, your adventure comes to an end. You’re free to depart at any time after check-out. If you’d like to extend your stay, simply contact your booking agent in advance to arrange additional accommodation.
