The Red Centre can be extreme, and this trip asks you to take the desert seriously. Days may be very hot, the Australian sun is strong all year, and evenings can get cold. In winter, nights can drop below freezing, so pack for heat, sun, wind and cold rather than one simple forecast.

The order of activities may shift because sunrise times, sunset times and weather change through the year. First Nations experiences may also occasionally be unavailable if guides have cultural commitments; when that happens, your leader will arrange an appropriate alternative.

This route includes early starts, several long drives and remote areas with very few services. Vehicle space can feel tight, and some days are long, but that road time is part of seeing the Red Centre properly rather than only touching the obvious stops.

There are active walks on this trip, including the full Uluru base circuit and the Kings Canyon Rim Walk. Good fitness, sturdy enclosed shoes, sun protection and enough water are important.

Travelers wanting a shorter camping-style Red Centre trip may prefer the 4-day Uluru and Kings Canyon Explorer. Travelers wanting a more comfortable version may prefer Best of Uluru and Kings Canyon.

Accommodation is a mix of hotels, air-conditioned bush tents and permanent tented camp accommodation. The listed accommodation style is a guide and may change if preferred properties or camps are unavailable. If a change is needed, a similar standard will be used whenever possible.

The bush tents at King's Creek Station are simple twin-share tents with air conditioning, light, power and linen. Bathroom facilities are shared. The Finke River permanent tented camp includes ensuite facilities and a more comfortable camp setup in a remote setting.

Hotels are asked to prepare rooms ahead of the group's arrival, especially when arrival is earlier than standard check-in. Immediate check-in is not always possible, so luggage may be stored while the group waits or explores.

The default start is at the Outback Hotel & Lodge in Yulara at 4 pm, where you meet your group and leader. Flights into Yulara, Ayers Rock Airport, airport code AYQ, are met by the free resort shuttle bus, which drops travelers at their accommodation. If you are flying into Alice Springs, you can instead begin with pickup at Stay at Alice Springs Hotel at 8:30 am on Day 1 at no extra cost.
