Is this trip right for you?
This trip works best for travelers who are comfortable with real-world logistics: early starts, local standards that may
differ from home, occasional long travel days and plans that can shift with weather, roads or border timing. Bring
flexibility, curiosity and practical shoes.
Visa information
Visa details are provided through Sherpa, a third-party service. The “Add connection” feature only shows transit visa requirements, not full entry visas. Additional service fees apply if you purchase a visa via Sherpa.
Accommodation
Camping with facilities — 6 nights, Backpackers — 2 nights, Basic huts with shared facilities — 2 nights,Hotel — 3 nights
Accommodation on this trip is mostly in two-person canvas dome tents, with camping mattresses provided.
The style and mix of accommodation can vary depending on the route and local conditions. Every route is different. Some include a combination of campsites and wild camps, while others also use hotels. In Africa, camping in towns and cities is often not practical, so hotel accommodation is usually arranged there, with meals taken at local restaurants.
On some nights, we may stay on the grounds of a hotel or at a campsite where rooms or cabins are also available. When this happens, you may have the option to continue camping or upgrade to a room. Twin rooms usually cost around USD 40–100 per room, per night, and cannot be booked in advance. Standards can vary widely, so we recommend viewing the room before paying for the upgrade. The day-by-day itinerary will note where upgrades may be possible, subject to availability.
If the group stays in dormitory-style accommodation, you may need to share with other travelers or be split into same-sex rooms.
Campsites do have facilities, but they are often much more basic than what you may be used to in Western countries. Bathrooms can be simple, toilet paper is rarely provided, and showers may sometimes be as basic as a cold-water hose. Wild camps have no facilities at all.
At times, there may be spare tents carried in the vehicles. Unfortunately, these cannot be used unless a single supplement has been purchased. This helps reduce wear and tear and ensures the tents remain clean and ready for travelers joining later sections of the trip.

Instructions
If this is your first time in Durban, or if you are traveling alone, we recommend pre-booking an arrival transfer. This can be arranged through your booking consultant once you have provided your flight details. Durban’s airport is King Shaka International Airport. If you are arriving on a domestic flight, please check your arrival terminal and share this information with your booking agent.
If you have pre-booked a transfer, your driver will be waiting for you in the Arrivals Hall of your arrival terminal, either domestic or international. This area can be busy, so please look carefully for the transfer representative holding a card with your name on it. Do not accept rides from anyone claiming to be your driver unless they clearly represent ING Travel & Tours.
If you cannot find your driver, you can call +27 (0) 31 305 0036 at any time, or contact the ING Travel & Tours office on +27 73 916 9101. If your flight is delayed, please call the local emergency number on +27 82 822 9407 to advise them of your new arrival time. If your phone does not have roaming, you may want to buy a prepaid SIM card in the Arrivals Hall at King Shaka Airport. Reliable providers in South Africa include MTN, Vodacom, and Cell-C.
Your driver will wait for one hour after your scheduled arrival time. If you are delayed by more than one hour and have not been able to contact the transfer provider, please make your own way to the hotel. If the driver does not have your transfer on record, please show a voucher confirming your transfer booking. The airport representative will then assist with arrangements or advise you to take a taxi. If you make your own way to the hotel, please keep your receipt and let your tour leader know at the welcome meeting on Day 1.
Official metered airport taxis are also available. The fare to the hotel is approximately ZAR 350, payable directly to the driver. The taxi rank is located just outside the departures terminal. Travel time to the hotel is usually between 30 minutes and 1 hour, depending on traffic and the time of day.
