Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan are not casual, do-it-yourself destinations in the way many travelers may be used to. Turkmenistan especially is tightly controlled, with required Letters of Invitation, structured guiding and less freedom to wander independently than in many other countries. Travelers who are flexible, curious and comfortable with different systems usually find that this is part of what makes the route fascinating.

There are several long travel days, including a long border day and rough desert driving to Darvaza. Heat, dust, walking and bureaucracy all play a role, so solid general health, patience and a good sense of humor matter.

Accommodation is modest in a few places. The desert yurt camp and the Nohur guesthouse use shared arrangements and basic facilities, with bathrooms outside or shared. These nights are not fancy, but they put you close to experiences that would be hard to reach otherwise.

Visa information is provided by Sherpa, a trusted third-party. The “Add connection” feature only shows transit visa requirements and does not cover full entry visas. U.S. citizens traveling to Italy for stays under 90 days typically do not need a tourist visa. Additional service fees may apply if you choose to purchase a visa through Sherpa. Always check official sources before traveling.

Accommodation includes 7 hotel nights, 1 night in a yurt camp, 1 night on an overnight train and 1 night in a guest house. Hotels are practical bases in the cities, while the train, desert camp and village guesthouse are simpler and more experiential.

On the overnight train, sleeping is in 4-berth cabins with basic bedding provided. At Darvaza, yurt accommodation is multi-share with simple shared facilities. In Nohur Village, guesthouse sleeping is on floor mattresses with blankets and pillows, usually four people per room, and the toilet and shower are outside.

If you have booked an arrival transfer through EurotourClub, please provide your flight details no later than 14 days before departure. Standard-class arrivals should pass passport control, collect luggage and look for the airport taxi counter in the main hall, where a representative will help direct you to your driver. The driver will be waiting outside with your name.

Business-class arrivals exit through a different area. Before your flight, send a WhatsApp message to +998 93 333 72 48 and +998 91 520 68 33 stating that you are arriving business class, so the driver can meet you at the correct exit. If your flight is delayed, luggage is lost or you cannot find the driver, contact the local emergency number listed in your trip documents.
