- Spend the day in the Cape Winelands, traveling through the vineyard landscapes of Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. Begin with wine and cheese tasting at Fairview, a working estate on the slopes of Paarl Mountain known for its wines, artisanal cheeses and distinctive goat tower.
Continue past the Drakenstein prison associated with Nelson Mandela’s release in 1990, then head into the Franschhoek Valley for more vineyard scenery and wine tasting. Lunch is at your own expense, with opportunities to choose an estate restaurant or a café in the village.
Later, explore the university town of Stellenbosch before a cellar visit and chocolate-and-wine pairing at Hidden Valley on the slopes of the Helderberg.
