The United Kingdom allows U.S. citizens to visit visa-free for up to 6 months for tourism or business purposes.
Although the UK is not part of the Schengen Area, it has its own independent entry and border rules.
Starting in 2024–2025, travelers from visa-exempt countries, including the United States, must apply for a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before entering the UK.
To enter the United Kingdom, you’ll need:
- A valid passport for the duration of your stay
- An approved UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)
- Proof of onward or return travel
- Evidence of sufficient funds for your stay
Entry requirements are subject to change, so we always recommend checking the latest official guidance before traveling.
