Aside from the required visa, one must present a passport issued within the last 10 years and valid for at least 6 months beyond the return date. Travelers from the USA, EU, and Switzerland are not obligated by law to purchase insurance, although it is recommended that they do so. In case one decides not to purchase insurance, a waiver will be signed by the traveler taking responsibility for any cost that may be incurred during the trip.

Tipping is expected for visitors while they are traveling in Sri Lanka. Tipping is one way of showing gratitude for good service.

The climate in Sri Lanka is hot and humid most of the time, so it’s necessary to wear light, breathable clothing, particularly outside the hill country, where it’s cooler. Additionally, it’s important to avoid clothing that features Buddha images or Buddha tattoos, as this can result in legal problems.

Drinking tap water is not advisable in Sri Lanka, but it is best to drink filtered water, where a refillable bottle is preferable to a plastic one.
