Yes. US citizens need a visa in advance. The usual type for tourists is e-Visa, applied for via a website.
- Process: Apply via the official Pakistan Online Visa System. Requirements include a digital photo, scan of your passport, and your itinerary and hosting organization details.
- Passport Validity: The passport you hold should be valid for at least six months beyond your date of entry.
- Police Registration: Once you arrive, you are required to register with the local police in 24 hours if you are staying in a hotel; it will be arranged by the hotel. In a private residence, your hosts will help with this.
- Our Advice: Our EurotourClub team will assist you through the process of obtaining a visa and will also ensure that all necessary local registration is taken care of.
Yes, absolutely, and this is mandatory for all EurotourClub guests. Medical facilities in rural areas are limited.
- Medical & Evacuation: Your policy must include high medical expense limits and emergency medical evacuation, which may involve airlift to a major city or foreign country.
- Activity Coverage: It must specifically include trekking, high altitude hiking, and 4x4 driving if these feature in your plan.
- Trip Protection: Coverage for trip cancellation and trip interruption is highly recommended.
Tipping is a welcome gesture but not necessarily expected in everyday life, but it is a normal practice in the tourism sector.
- Restaurants: A tip of 5 to 10 percent of the bill is sufficient when you are in an urban area and do not already pay a service charge.
- Tour Guides & Drivers: A generous tip for a private guide is 1,500-2,500 PKR ($5-$9 USD) per day, while for a driver, 1,000-1,500 PKR ($4-$6 USD) is a generous tip.
- Porters & Hotel Staff: 100-200 PKR (0.35-0.70 USD) per bag or service.
No. Do not. Do not drink tap water in any of the cities of Pakistan.
- The Universal Rule: You should drink only sealed bottles of water, which are plentiful and very cheap. You should use this water to brush your teeth.
- On the Road and during Trekking: Your tour company will provide enough safe drinking water. If in doubt, use water purification tablets or boil water for one minute.
- Food: Raw salads, fruits that are not peeled, and ice in drinks should be avoided unless the water can be trusted.
While it’s fairly easy in larger cities, it can be slow and unreliable or non-existent in the mountain regions in the north.
- Internet Access: Wi-Fi: Available at most hotels and cafes in cities. However, speeds may not always be consistent.
- Mobile Data: This is your best option. Buy a SIM card for data access.
- Remote Valleys: In areas such as Hunza, Gilgit, or trekking trails, you may find very little connectivity. That’s what you pay for.
Yes, but a local SIM card is required for proper service, and it may be necessary that your phone is registered.
- For US Citizens: International roaming is usually not available or is very pricey.
- Local SIM & PTA Registration: You can buy a tourist SIM (offered by either Jazz, Zong, or Telenor) at the airport.
- Important: It is obligatory for foreign mobiles to be registered with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). It can be a cumbersome process for foreign tourists planning a long visit to the country, and the best option in this case can be a basic local phone arranged by your tour operator for your communications.
- Availability: Fairly good in the plains and urban areas. Highly irregular in mountainous regions.
You will be exposed to a combination of contemporary flushing toilets and Asian-style squat toilets.
- Hotels & Restaurants in Cities: Modern, fixed toilets.
- Public Toilets, Countryside, & Mountains: Toilet types are usually squats. Public restrooms are usually very basic and may not even provide toilet paper.
- Important: Always carry toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and wet wipes with you. Do not flush toilet paper; put it in the waste bin provided.
It is important that you dress modestly in Pakistan, as it is a conservative country where most people are Muslims.
- General Rule (Applicable to Everyone): Loose-fitting clothing that covers shoulders, chest, and knees at least. Long trousers and long-sleeved shirts are preferred.
- For Women: A headscarf is not required for women from other countries, but it's strongly recommended as an indicator of respect, particularly in rural areas and mosques. A headscarf may also prevent unwanted attention.
- For Men: Do not wear shorts in public.
The security requirements are also different in each region. Though major tourist routes in the northern region (Gilgit-Baltistan, Hunza, and Skardu) are relatively stable, there are serious security threats in other regions.

- Travel Alerts: The U.S. State Department advises "Reconsider Travel" for the whole country, and "Do Not Travel" for certain areas (around the Afghan border and Balochistan provinces). Visits for tourism purposes are only advised for designated areas.
- Our Tours: EurotourClub only operates in recognized, secure areas like Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (for Swat & Kalash), and the cultural province of Punjab/Lahore with all safety measures in place, local cooperation, and permits (NOC in the restricted area).
- General Warning: There is petty crime in the larger cities. You are advised to dress modestly, avoid any political rallies, and at all times follow the advice of your guide and the security team.
- The number to call in case of an emergency in this country is 15 for police.
