- Proof of Travel: You may need to provide proof of onward/return travel, such as flight tickets.
- Digital Arrival Card: The Malaysia Digital Arrival Card must be filled out by all travelers online at least three (3) days prior to their intended date of arrival. It is free and easy.

Yes, absolutely, and it is mandatory for all guests at EurotourClub. Though Malaysia provides good medical care, it is always a good idea to have insurance in case of unexpected occurrences.
- Medical Coverage: Your policy must cover medical expenses. Private hospitals are very good, but you have to pay for them.
- Trip Protection: Make sure it includes coverage for trip cancellation, interruption, and delay.
- Activity Coverage: If adventure sports, such as diving or trekking, are included in your travel plan, it is important to check.
Tipping is not expected or required. A 10% service charge will often be automatically included with your bill at a hotel or at a nice restaurant, and no additional tip will be required.
- Restaurants & Hotels: No additional tipping is necessary if there is a service charge. Leaving a little extra money is acceptable but not expected.
- Taxi & Ride Share Drivers: It is often necessary to round to the nearest ringgit for convenience.
- Tour Guides and Drivers: To ensure that you get exemplary services during your multi-day trip, it is advisable to tip your guide between 20 to 40 MYR (about 4 to 9 USD) and your driver between 10 to 20 MYR (about 2 to 4 USD).
Tap water in large cities and hotels is purified and considered safe; however, it is always advised to drink filtered water in all countries.
- Standard Practice: Boiled water or water filters are common in local communities. Travelers should rely on bottled water, which is inexpensive and abundant.
- Ice & Drinks: Ice found in good restaurants and hotels is made from purified water. Therefore, it is safe to use.
- When in Doubt: Bottled water should be used for drinking and oral hygiene in rural areas or in islands.
Internet access is very good and readily available in urban and tourist destinations around the country.
- Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi connectivity is available in hotels, shopping malls, airports, and in most cafes and restaurants.
- Mobile Data: 4G/5G networks are excellent in urban areas, while in rural areas, it is also good. It is always advisable to purchase a local SIM card in order to have continuous, fast internet connectivity.
Yes, very easily. You can buy a SIM card from a local operator; it’s very cheap and provides the best experience.
- U.S. Citizens: Review your roaming plan for foreign countries. Local SIM cards are significantly cheaper for data access.
- Best Local Solution: Buy a prepaid SIM card at the airport upon arrival from companies such as Celcom, Maxis (Hotlink), or Digi. You will need your passport for registration. Tourist data packages are very reasonable.
- Coverage: The network is excellent nationwide, including key islands such as Langkawi and Penang.
You will encounter a combination of Western-style flush toilets and squat toilets typical of Asian culture.
- Shopping Malls, Hotels, and airports: Modern, sit-down toilets with toilet paper.
- Public Restrooms, Older Restaurants, Rural Areas: Squat toilets are prevalent. Public toilets require a small payment (usually 0.50 to 1.00 MYR) and might not have toilet paper.
- Essential: Always have a small supply of toilet tissue and hand sanitizer. In many countries, it’s necessary to put toilet tissue in a garbage can rather than flushing it.
Malaysia is a multicultural country with a Muslim majority. Modest dress is a matter of respect.
- General Rule: Clothing that is light and loose-fitting is best for the heat. It is best to have your shoulders and knees covered in all public places.
- Visiting Mosques & Temples: Your arms, legs, and head (for women in mosques) must be covered. Most major mosques provide robes.
- At Beaches & Resorts, swimwear is allowed at swimming pools and beach areas. When you leave those areas, you should wear clothing.
