Tour program
  • Tervetuloa — welcome to Finland! Your winter family adventure begins today in Rovaniemi, the gateway to Finnish Lapland and the official hometown of Santa Claus. You’ll meet your local leader and the other families at 4 pm. If you arrive earlier, you might stop by the Angry Birds-themed playground, visit Science Centre Pilke for hands-on exhibits about northern forests, or ease into Finnish life with a warm, steamy sauna. After the welcome meeting, there’s the option to head into town for dinner together and start getting to know the travelers joining you on the trip.
  • Accommodation
    Hotelli Aakenus (1 night)
  • Meals
There are no meals included on this day.
  • Special information
Please make sure you attend the welcome meeting, as this is when we’ll collect your travel insurance details and emergency contact information. If you’re running late, let your travel agent or the hotel reception know as soon as possible. For the exact meeting location, ask at reception or check for a note posted in the hotel lobby.
  • This morning, you’ll head to a local family-run reindeer farm with roots going all the way back to 1861. During your visit, you may have the chance to feed the reindeer, watch them move through their daily routine, and learn how reindeer herding has shaped life in Lapland for generations. Afterward, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy Rovaniemi at your own pace. You might visit the Rovaniemi Art Museum, cross the Arctic Circle, or spend time at Santa Claus Village. This evening, consider heading out to a local restaurant for dinner — your leader will be happy to share their favorite recommendations.

    • Rovaniemi - Santa Village - Free
  • Special information
Please keep in mind that reindeer roam freely across the countryside and usually return to the farm to feed. Because of this, some of the herd may be out wandering elsewhere on the day of your visit.

Entry to Santa Claus Village is free, but any activities inside the village are paid locally and cost extra.
  • This morning, you’ll make your way to Halipuu Forest, a quiet woodland with a meaningful family story behind it. When you arrive, you’ll meet the family who owns the land and learn how they’re working to protect the forest, raise awareness about nature conservation, and keep local trees from being cut down. Then you’ll slow down the Finnish way — hug a few trees, breathe in the stillness of the woods, and settle into a hammock for the calming experience of arctic cocooning. Afterward, gather by the fire for a warm cup of hot chocolate and a campfire lunch of lapp-dogs — reindeer sausages wrapped in bread dough and roasted over the flames. Later, return to Levi for the night, and don’t forget to look up after dark for any sign of the Northern Lights.

  • Bundle up for today’s adventure, because this morning you’re heading out to meet the sled dogs. You’ll start by meeting your guides and the huskies, then get a quick introduction to basic mushing techniques before setting off through the forest. These high-energy dogs are doing exactly what they love most — barking with excitement, pulling together, and racing along wide snowy trails. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy Levi at your own pace. You might join a guided ice fishing experience, head to the snowy slopes for some sledding if conditions allow, or gather with your fellow travelers for dinner at a local restaurant — a perfect way to celebrate your final night in Lapland.

Trip moments from our travelers
Before you book you should know
Is this trip right for you?
  • This part of Finland can get extremely cold in winter, which is the season when this trip runs. Please make sure you pack warm, practical clothing that’s suitable for harsh weather. You’ll find more detailed packing advice in the Packing section of the Essential Trip Information document.
  • From time to time, winter weather may require your leader to adjust the itinerary or change certain activities. If that happens, an alternative experience will be offered whenever possible.
  • Please also keep in mind that even though temperatures can be very cold, snow cover is not guaranteed on every departure. This is especially true for trips that run earlier in the winter season.
  • The Northern Lights, also called the Aurora Borealis, are a natural display of colorful lights that appear in the night sky across parts of the northern hemisphere. While sightings can never be promised, your chances are generally better in high-latitude areas with little light pollution. Clear skies make all the difference, so keep your fingers crossed during your stay.
  • The average age of children who joined this trip last year was 9. Most kids on EurotourClub Family trips are usually between 10 and 14 years old.
Visa information
Visa details are provided through Sherpa, a third-party service. The “Add connection” feature only shows transit visa requirements, not full entry visas. Additional service fees apply if you purchase a visa via Sherpa.
Accommodation
Hotel (4 nights)
General rooming arrangements
For a family of two, you’ll be accommodated in a twin room.
For a family of three, we’ll arrange a triple room whenever possible. Please keep in mind that triple rooms can be limited in some destinations. In many cases, a triple room may be a twin room with an added rollaway bed or mattress on the floor. If a triple room is not available, your family can decide who will use the single room.
For a family of four or more, accommodation will usually be arranged in two twin rooms. When available, we’ll do our best to place your family in a quadruple room instead.
We always try to keep family members as close together as possible, and in some cases, adjoining rooms may be available. However, this can’t be guaranteed. Family trips often take place during busy travel periods, and hotels may have limited flexibility with room placement. We appreciate your understanding if your family’s rooms are not directly next to each other.
