The Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands deliver the scenery people dream about: glaciated mountains, blue-white ice, open water and wildlife at every turn. Over these four expedition days, look for whales moving along the coast while penguins, seals and seabirds bring the ice to life. February and March are prime months for seeing humpbacks, minkes, fin whales and orcas feeding in the cold, nutrient-rich Southern Ocean. Sightings may happen from the ship decks, during Zodiac outings or from the bridge when the open-bridge policy allows guests into the command center. You can also join the Happy Whale Citizen Science project by uploading whale fluke photos with location details, helping researchers identify individual whales and track their movements. Optional kayaking may be available if conditions allow, and you may also have the chance to take the polar plunge. Special information: landing sites, Zodiac outings and optional activities depend on weather and ice conditions and cannot be guaranteed in advance. Kayaking must be pre-booked through your booking agent before travel.
