The White Continent wakes up.

Antarctica Springs to Life

This 10-day EurotourClub polar expedition carries you from Ushuaia across the legendary Drake Passage to the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula, right as Antarctica shakes off winter and starts moving again. You will sail aboard the Ocean Victory, a modern expedition ship built for polar waters, then head out by Zodiac when conditions allow to see glaciers, volcanic islands, penguin colonies, seabirds, seals and the first big stirrings of the season. It is wild, remote, weather-shaped travel, with expert expedition leaders, onboard learning, Citizen Science opportunities and those quiet, unreal moments when the ice, ocean and sky seem to take over everything.

Why you'll love this trip

  • Ocean Victory Comfort
Sail on a polar-built ship with X-Bow stability, viewing decks and warm onboard spaces.
  • Cross the Drake
Experience the famous sea crossing that turns Antarctica from a dream into reality.
  • Penguin Season Begins
Watch penguins return, pair up, build nests and settle into early-season colony life.
  • Wildlife Everywhere
Look for whales, seals, albatross, petrels and prions across icy southern waters.
  • Zodiac Ice Cruising
Get closer to glaciers, volcanic islands and wildlife from small expedition boats.
  • Sunset Photo Moments
Capture Antarctic sunsets, huge ice, wildlife encounters and shipboard photo memories.
This is Antarctica at a rare and exciting moment: early in the season, full of movement, and still carrying the deep quiet of winter. The voyage feels adventurous without stripping away comfort, which makes it a strong choice for travelers who want the edge of the world with real expedition support.

Tour program
  • Welcome to Ushuaia, the southern gateway to Antarctica. When you arrive at the airport, you will be transferred to your hotel for the night. Take time to settle in, stretch your legs after the flight and get your first taste of this wind-swept city at the end of the world.
This evening, join your welcome meeting and meet the people you will be sharing the journey with. If you arrive early, you might wander around town, try a local Argentinian snack or pick up a small keepsake before the voyage begins.
  • Accommodation
    Comfortable Hotel - 1 night
  • Meals
There are no meals included on this day.
  • This morning is yours to enjoy Ushuaia before boarding the Ocean Victory. You may want to visit a local museum, browse a few shops in town or simply take it slow at the hotel before the expedition begins.
Once you board the ship, you will meet the Expedition Team who will guide the voyage from start to finish. After a safety and orientation briefing, gather with your fellow travelers and the captain for a welcome dinner on board. Tonight, the ship heads out and the real adventure begins.

    Expedition Ship - 1 night
  • Meals
    • Breakfast
    • Dinner
  • These two days are all about the Drake Passage, the famous stretch of ocean between the southern tip of South America and the Antarctic Peninsula. It is one of the great crossings in expedition travel, and part of what makes arriving in Antarctica feel so earned.
As the ship sails south, your Expedition Team will bring the region to life through talks on Antarctic history, ecology and wildlife. You can also take part in the Citizen Science program, helping contribute to research focused on Antarctic ecosystems, wildlife and the effects of climate change. As you cross the Antarctic Convergence, the air gets colder and the water changes. Keep binoculars nearby for albatross, petrels and prions riding the wind around the ship.

  • Today is planned around the South Shetland Islands, a dramatic island chain shaped by volcanic activity, ice and wild weather. If conditions allow, you will explore by Zodiac, cruising past mountains, glaciers and shorelines where wildlife returns in force after the long Antarctic winter.
Watch for chinstrap and gentoo penguins, whales, elephant seals and fur seals. You may also stop at Deception Island, where black volcanic sand, an active caldera, the remains of a Norwegian whaling station and old scientific bases create one of the most atmospheric places in the region.

  • Antarctica is waking up, and these two days are the heart of the expedition. You may see different penguin species coming ashore, choosing mates, building nests and tending to eggs as the season begins. Seals, seabirds, whales and sweeping ice landscapes add to the feeling that the whole continent is slowly coming back to life.
Depending on weather and sea conditions, the Expedition Team may plan excursions to scientific research bases, historic landing sites or other remarkable locations along the Peninsula. In the evenings, stay close to the windows or head out on deck for the glow of an Antarctic sunset across ice and water.

  • Begin the journey back north as the Ocean Victory crosses the Drake Passage once again. After days of ice, wildlife and Zodiac outings, these sea days give you time to rest, compare photos and let the whole experience settle in.
Celebrate the voyage with your fellow travelers and Expedition Team. There may be a slideshow of trip memories, a photography contest with the group and one final meal together on board. Raise a glass to the seventh continent and the kind of journey that stays with you long after you are home.

Trip moments from our travelers
Before you book you should know
Is this trip right for you?
  • The Ocean Victory is a strong, ice-strengthened expedition ship built for polar waters, but the Southern Ocean is still the Southern Ocean. The Drake Passage can be rough, and some travelers may feel seasick. There is a doctor on board, and many people find over-the-counter motion sickness medication helpful.
  • Antarctic weather changes quickly. It can feel bitterly cold, then surprisingly warm when the sun comes out, so layers are the way to go. Waterproof boots will be loaned to you, and you will receive an inner jacket to keep. Check the packing list before departure so you are ready for cold, wet and windy conditions.
  • Zodiac outings are a major part of the experience when weather allows. These small boats can be cold and wet, so dress properly and protect your camera gear. You will also need a fair level of mobility for wet and dry landings, steep terrain, snow and uneven ground.
  • In rough seas, elevators may be closed, which means using stairs to reach meals, presentations and activities. Flexibility is essential on an Antarctic voyage. Weather and ice conditions decide what is possible, and planned sites may change. There are nearly 200 recognized sites around the Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands, so if one landing is not possible, the Expedition Team will look for another beautiful and worthwhile option.
  • If weather keeps everyone on board, the ship still has plenty to offer. The library, educational lectures and gym help fill the time until conditions improve.
