Three countries, old roads, deep flavors

Silk Road to Yerevan

This 16-day Caucasus journey starts with Baku's sharp contrast of stone walls, waterfront lights and bold modern architecture, then keeps widening: Azerbaijan's rock art and hand-built stained glass, Georgia's wine country and balcony-lined capital, mountain churches, cave cities, refugee-community projects and finally Armenia's monasteries, lake views and warm Yerevan evenings.
It is a fuller, more comfortable route for travelers who want history, food, mountain scenery and cultural encounters without rushing through the region like a checklist.

Why you'll love this trip

  • Baku's Old-New Energy
Explore medieval walls, seaside boulevards and futuristic skyline views in one fascinating capital.
  • Qobustan's Ancient Landscape
Stand among prehistoric carvings, old oil-country stories and bubbling mud volcanoes outside Baku.
  • Sheki Handcrafts
See stained-glass artisans build delicate shebeke patterns using patience, precision and tradition.
  • Kakheti At The Table
Share Georgian wine, family cooking and polyphonic songs in the country's beloved wine region.
  • Tbilisi Feature Stay
Spend two nights in a historic hotel tied to writers, aristocrats and old-city charm.
  • Armenia's Sacred Stone
End among monasteries, duduk music, Lake Sevan light and Yerevan's cafe-filled streets.
From Baku to Yerevan, this tour follows the Caucasus through three countries where ancient faith, layered history and everyday hospitality still shape the road. Expect generous meals, serious mountain views and the kind of local encounters that make the region feel personal, not just scenic.

The city makes a strong first impression: old fortified quarters, Russian-influenced squares, glassy modern buildings and the Caspian Sea all sitting close together. Your welcome meeting is at 6 pm, where you meet your local leader and fellow travelers. Visit Sevanavank Monastery on the peninsula, then continue to Garni to see the first-century Garni Temple, dedicated to Mithra, the sun god. A special local performance at the temple introduces the sound of the duduk, Armenia's flute-like instrument recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage. Trip moments from our travelers
Before you book you should know
Is this trip right for you?
This is a full itinerary with a lot packed into 16 days. It is a good fit if you like busy cultural travel, guided site visits, regional food, meaningful local encounters and changing scenery. It is less ideal if you want long stretches of resort-style downtime.
The climate across Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia is generally mild, but mountain areas above 2000 meters can be much cooler than the cities. Bring layers, especially for the Caucasus sections around Gudauri, Stepantsminda and the higher monastery visits.
You should be comfortable walking through towns, historic sites, markets, monasteries and uneven stone areas. Supportive walking shoes are important, especially at places like Vardzia, where stairs, sandy surfaces and narrow passages require careful footing.
There are several longer road days. Treat them as part of the experience: the scenery changes constantly, and travel time is often when the group settles into its own rhythm.
When crossing from Azerbaijan into Georgia, you will need to carry or wheel your luggage for about 700 meters between customs areas. Keep your passport and required travel documents close at hand.
Some activities, including the high Caucasus excursion around Kazbegi, depend on weather and road conditions. Your leader will update the group if local conditions require a change.
Visa information
Visa details are provided through Sherpa, a third-party service. The “Add connection” feature only shows transit visa requirements, not full entry visas. Additional service fees apply if you purchase a visa via Sherpa.
Accommodation
This tour uses comfortable hotels for most nights, plus two nights in a Feature Stay in Tbilisi. Accommodation names listed in the itinerary are examples or preferred properties and can change if rooms are not available. If a change is needed, a similar standard of accommodation will be used.
Hotels are asked to have rooms ready when the group arrives, especially after early arrivals, but check-in timing cannot always be guaranteed. If rooms are not ready, luggage can usually be stored so you can start exploring. On some trips, shared day rooms may be used until individual rooms become available.
