Wild Coast by Expedition Ship

The Ocean Victory is an ice-strengthened expedition ship, which means it is sturdy, comfortable and built for unpredictable waters. Even so, rougher seas can happen, and some travelers may feel seasick. A doctor is onboard, and many guests manage occasional motion with standard over-the-counter seasickness medication.

Ireland's weather changes fast. It can feel cold and damp, then suddenly warm when the sun breaks through, so layers matter. Waterproof boots are loaned to travelers, and a waterproof jacket is provided for you to keep. When the itinerary uses Zodiac boats for coastal exploration or wildlife searching, expect cold spray and wet conditions. Keep your camera protected and dress for the water, not just the forecast.

This style of trip requires a reasonable level of mobility. Wet and dry landings can involve uneven ground, steep terrain and moving between ship and Zodiac. In rough seas, elevators may close, so you may need to use stairs for meals, lectures and activities.

Expedition travel depends heavily on weather and sea conditions. The planned route is the goal, but the team may change landings, activities or timing for safety. If rough weather keeps the group onboard, the ship's lectures, library, spa and gym help keep the day useful and comfortable until conditions improve.

Accommodation is aboard the Ocean Victory for 6 nights. This modern expedition ship carries up to 184 passengers and was designed for polar-style exploration, with an X-Bow profile built for stability, generous viewing areas and quick access to Zodiac operations.

Cabins are comfortable and ship-based rather than hotel rooms, and many include private balconies. Onboard spaces include observation decks, a library, educational lecture areas, a wellness center, gym, spa and two outdoor Jacuzzis with wide-open views. As with any expedition voyage, onboard routines can shift with weather, sea conditions and operational needs.

Boarding instructions are confirmed in your Final Travel Documents, which are normally sent about four weeks before departure. Embarkation is scheduled between 2 pm and 4 pm on Day 1. Plan your arrival so you have enough time to reach the port, check in, board the ship and attend the 5 pm safety briefing.
