Christmas Lights from Munich to Budapest

Pack small and light. This itinerary uses public transportation, where storage space is limited, and you need to lift your own luggage into train racks, carry it on stairs and manage it across cobblestone streets.

Christmas markets are beautiful, but they can also be crowded. Expect busy squares, popular stalls and a fair amount of time outdoors. Since this is a winter trip, warm layers, comfortable shoes, gloves and weather-ready outerwear matter.

Train travel is the main way you move between cities. It is usually fast, comfortable and efficient, with toilets, air conditioning, power points and sometimes snack bars or vending machines, while arriving right into city centers.

European hotels often use twin beds rather than one large double bed. In some properties, two single beds may be pushed together or kept separate.

Accommodation includes 7 nights in hotels. The accommodation style listed in the daily itinerary is a guide, and similar standard properties may be used if the preferred hotel is unavailable.

Rooms are arranged on a twin-share basis. Solo travelers are paired with another traveler of the same gender as listed on their passport. In rare cases, bathroom facilities may be shared, or travelers may share a room with passengers from another EurotourClub-style departure using the same property.

Hotels are asked to prepare rooms before group arrival whenever possible, especially when the group reaches a city before normal check-in time. Early check-in cannot be guaranteed, so luggage may be stored while you explore. On some departures, shared day rooms may be available until rooms are ready.

European hotels do not always have private ensuite facilities or air conditioning, and kettles or fridges are not standard everywhere. Pre-trip or post-trip accommodation may require changing rooms between your extra nights and the group booking.

Hotel Europa is a 4-star hotel about a 10-minute tram ride from Munich Central Railway Station. Rooms are soundproofed and include modern furnishings, heating or air conditioning, TV, safe, minibar, kettle, desk and private bathroom. Munich International Airport is about 30 kilometers northeast of the city center. S-Bahn lines S1 and S8 connect the airport with Munich Central Station every 10 minutes during the day, with a journey time of about 40 to 50 minutes. Taxis are also available outside the arrivals hall.
