Tour program
  • Welcome to Germany. Your trip begins in Berlin with a 6 pm welcome meeting, so try to arrive with enough time to settle in and get your bearings. If you get in early, you might cruise the Spree River, browse museums and galleries around Kulturforum Potsdamer Platz or visit Berliner Dom Cathedral.

After the meeting, head out with the group for dinner if you like. Berlin's food scene is a lively mix of classic German cooking, Bavarian comfort, Italian influence and Middle Eastern favorites, though currywurst, schnitzel, pretzels and beer still know how to steal the evening.

  • Today is yours to dig into Berlin at your own pace. Start with the included orientation walk, then choose your own direction: Brandenburg Gate, Berlin Wall remnants, the Reichstag, the Jewish Memorial, Topography of Terror or the TV Tower's high city view.

A bike tour is also a good way to connect the city's big historical pieces without spending the whole day underground on transit. Tonight, ask your leader for dinner ideas and see where Berlin's always-changing food scene takes you.

  • Board the train to Dresden, then stretch your legs on an orientation walk with your leader. The afternoon is open, so you might explore the rebuilt Old Town, pass Frauenkirche, Zwinger and the grand Neumarkt buildings, or sit down for Saxon classics such as sauerbraten-style roast beef and potato dumplings.

If the weather is kind, a cruise along the Elbe gives you a softer view of the Baroque skyline. Later, consider heading into Neustadt, where street art, independent bars and a creative local scene show Dresden's less polished, more playful side.

You may finish with a quick brewery stop and a pilsner in the country that takes beer seriously. The rest of the day is free for Prague Castle, St Vitus Cathedral, Golden Lane or the old Jewish Quarter.

Trip moments from our travelers
Before you book you should know
Is this trip right for you?
Pack light for this itinerary. You will use public transportation, where storage space is limited, and you need to be able to lift your own luggage into train racks, carry it on stairs and move it across cobblestone streets.

This trip includes plenty of free time. Your leader will share ideas and recommendations, but optional museums, cruises, bike tours, food stops, nightlife and day trips are paid locally, so plan extra spending money around what you actually want to do.

Accommodation is basic by design. European rooms can be compact, double beds may be two singles pushed together or kept apart, and some places may have shared bathrooms. Air conditioning is not always available, especially in older or locally run properties.

Season matters. Summer temperatures can climb high in parts of Central Europe, while winter can bring cold, rain and snow. Bring sun protection and light layers for warm months, and warm waterproof layers for colder departures.

Trains are the main transport style on this route. They are usually comfortable and efficient, often with toilets, air conditioning, power points and snack options, but you will still need to manage your own bags on platforms and through stations.
Visa information
Visa details are provided through Sherpa, a third-party service. The “Add connection” feature only shows transit visa requirements, not full entry visas. Additional service fees apply if you purchase a visa via Sherpa.
Accommodation
Accommodation includes 3 nights in hotels and 4 nights in hostels. The style listed in the day-by-day itinerary is a guide, and similar standard accommodation may be used if preferred properties are unavailable.

European hotels and hostels are often smaller than travelers from the United States expect. Rooms may be compact, not all properties have air conditioning, and kettles or fridges are not standard. In some properties, bathroom facilities may be shared.

Hotels are asked to prepare rooms before group arrival whenever possible, especially when the group arrives before normal check-in time. Early check-in cannot be guaranteed, so luggage may be stored while you explore, or shared day rooms may be used on some departures until rooms are ready.

If you book pre-trip or post-trip accommodation, you may need to change rooms between your extra nights and the group accommodation.
