MOUNTAIN ROADS, MARKET TABLES, QVEVRI WINE

Georgia Through Wine and Fire

This 8-day Georgia food trip follows the good stuff: old Tbilisi streets, loud market stalls, family kitchens, mountain views, qvevri wine, smoky barbecue, handmade dumplings and the kind of hospitality that makes dinner feel like the main event.

You will travel from Tbilisi into Kakheti, Telavi, Pankisi Valley, Gudauri and Stepantsminda, meeting cooks, cheesemakers, winemakers and local families along the way.

Why you'll love this trip

  • Tbilisi Market Energy
Shop Dezertir Bazaar, where spices, cheese and churchkhela crowd the stalls.
  • Kakheti Wine Country
Taste qvevri wine where Georgian winemaking goes back thousands of years.
  • Family Barbecue Lunch
Learn mtsvadi traditions at a local home, then share a generous Kakheti meal.
  • Pankisi Valley Kitchen
Stay with Kist hosts and cook Chechen dishes in green mountain foothills.
  • Gergeti Trinity Hike
Walk toward Georgia's dramatic mountain church above Stepantsminda and the valleys.
  • Khinkali Masterclass
Fold Georgian dumplings with a local family and learn the proper eating technique.
This is Georgia at its most delicious: smoky grills, mountain air, shared tables and wine poured with real pride.

Your welcome meeting is scheduled for 6 pm at the hotel, so aim to arrive with enough time to settle in before meeting your leader and group.

Trip moments from our travelers
Before you book you should know
Is this trip right for you?
Caucasus cooking often includes meat, dairy and rich traditional dishes. Vegetarians and vegans should review the itinerary and included meals carefully before booking, as some food experiences are planned around set menus or local specialties. Other Caucasus trips may be better suited to a wider range of dietary requirements.

Georgia's seasons are part of its beauty, but weather can shift quickly, especially in mountain areas. Layers are useful year-round, and occasional itinerary changes may happen if roads are closed or conditions make the planned route unsafe.

This trip includes a fair amount of walking, plus a hike to Gergeti Trinity Church on Day 6 at an altitude of 2170 meters. Sturdy walking shoes, comfortable clothing and at least a moderate fitness level will help you enjoy the trip properly.
Visa information
Visa details are provided through Sherpa, a third-party service. The “Add connection” feature only shows transit visa requirements, not full entry visas. Additional service fees apply if you purchase a visa via Sherpa.
Accommodation
Accommodation includes 6 nights in hotels and 1 night in a guesthouse. The accommodation style listed in the itinerary is a guide, and similar standard properties may be used if preferred accommodation is unavailable.

Hotels are asked to prepare rooms before group arrival, especially when the group reaches a destination before normal check-in time. Early check-in cannot always be guaranteed, so luggage may be stored while you explore, or shared day rooms may be used on some departures until all rooms are ready.

The Pankisi Valley guesthouse is a more local, personal stay and part of what makes this itinerary feel rooted in place. Expect a simpler atmosphere than city hotels and come ready for family-style hospitality.

If you book an arrival transfer through EurotourClub, please provide flight details no later than 14 days before departure. If your flight is canceled or changed, immigration or baggage takes much longer than expected, or you cannot find the driver, call +995 595 200 050.

You can also travel independently by licensed metered taxi. Avoid drivers who approach you directly. The ride usually takes about 30 minutes and costs around GEL50-70. Important notes

1. A single supplement may be available on this trip, subject to departure availability. It excludes Day 4, when the group stays in shared guesthouse accommodation. Ask your booking agent if you would like to request one.

2. Some meals and food activities are arranged in advance and may be difficult to change on the spot. Please share dietary requirements at the time of booking so the team can plan as carefully as possible.

3. Because of current border-crossing restrictions affecting different Caucasus nationalities, your trip leader may come from a nearby country. They will still bring strong regional knowledge and travel experience, and Georgian local guides are included throughout the itinerary to give you grounded, place-specific perspectives.
