Travel Time: Today's journey takes approximately 10 hours, including time spent exploring the spectacular Uyuni Salt Flats.
Desert Accommodation: Tonight's accommodation is simple and remote, offering a true high-altitude desert experience. Hot showers may be unavailable or unreliable, especially during the colder months when water pipes can freeze.
Electricity: Power is limited and supplied by solar panels and generators, so there may not be enough electricity to charge electronic devices. Bringing a fully charged power bank is highly recommended.
Cold Weather: Temperatures in the Andean Desert can become extremely cold, particularly after sunset. Be sure to pack warm clothing, thermal layers, gloves and a hat.
Shared 4WD Excursion: Depending on group size, your 4WD expedition may be shared with other Intrepid or independent travellers.
Seasonal Conditions: Between December and March, seasonal flooding can affect the Uyuni Salt Flats. If water levels are too high, the itinerary may be adjusted, which could include replacing or omitting the visit to Isla Incahuasi.
  • After breakfast, continue your 4WD adventure through the breathtaking landscapes of the Andean Desert. Pass the shimmering Chiguana Salt Lake, the active Ollagüe Volcano and a series of colourful high-altitude lagoons, where flamingos are often spotted. Explore the dramatic Siloli Desert, home to the famous Stone Tree rock formation and the striking Seven-Coloured Mountain. Later, visit the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve and take a walk around the spectacular Laguna Colorada, a vivid red lake surrounded by llamas, vicuñas and other unique Andean wildlife. End the day with dinner and an overnight stay in a welcoming local community.

  • This journey includes time at high altitude, so it's important to review the Medical & Health Information before travelling and allow yourself time to acclimatise.

  • Travel in Bolivia, particularly around Uyuni, can occasionally be unpredictable. Attractions may sometimes close without prior notice, so a flexible attitude will help you get the most out of your adventure.

Expect cold temperatures, especially at night, along with basic meals, shared dormitory-style accommodation, simple toilet facilities and occasional cold showers. While the journey can be rugged, the extraordinary scenery and unforgettable experiences make it one of the highlights of travelling through Bolivia.
