Trip moments from our travelers
Before you book you should know
Is this trip right for you?
  • This journey includes time at high altitude, so it's important to familiarise yourself with the health considerations before travelling. Please review the Medical & Health Information provided with your trip and allow time to acclimatise in Cusco.
  • The itinerary involves plenty of walking, and travellers choosing the Inca Trail or Quarry Trail should be prepared for several days of challenging hiking. A good level of fitness and sturdy hiking footwear are strongly recommended.
  • Trekkers on the Inca Trail and Quarry Trail will spend several nights camping with basic facilities. The rewarding journey through spectacular Andean landscapes is a memorable part of the overall Machu Picchu experience.
  • Entry to Machu Picchu is carefully managed through pre-assigned visitor circuits to help protect the archaeological site and reduce overcrowding. While every effort is made to keep groups together, travellers may occasionally be allocated different circuits depending on ticket availability. After the guided visit, visitors must leave the site, as independent exploration is not permitted.
  • Travellers choosing different ways of reaching Machu Picchu—whether via the Inca Trail, Quarry Trail or train—will follow different entry routes and visitor circuits. As a result, members of the same group or booking may not be able to explore the site together or take photographs from the same viewpoints.

Important notes

  1. Passport Details: Full passport details are required at the time of booking and must exactly match the passport you will use for travel. Incorrect or late information may result in permit issues, additional fees or changes to your itinerary.
  2. Route Selection: Unless you request otherwise when booking, an Inca Trail permit will be reserved for you. If you prefer the Quarry Trail or the train option, please advise your booking agent at the time of booking. Changes made later may incur additional fees and are subject to availability.
  3. Single Supplement: A single supplement is available for travellers who prefer private hotel rooms. This option applies to all hotel nights, is subject to availability and does not apply to camping nights.
  4. Trip Start Time: Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting at 2:00 pm on Day 1 in Cusco.
  5. February Departures: The Inca Trail closes every February for annual maintenance and conservation. If your trek falls during this period, you will automatically travel via the Quarry Trail instead.
  6. Machu Picchu Entry Circuits: To help protect the archaeological site, all visitors must follow a designated visitor circuit assigned with their entrance ticket. Travellers on the Quarry Trail and train option will be placed on the same circuit whenever possible, while Inca Trail hikers enter the citadel through the iconic Sun Gate (Intipunku).
  7. Different Travel Options: As travellers may reach Machu Picchu via the Inca Trail, Quarry Trail or train, you may travel alongside other Intrepid guests or independent travellers. Depending on your chosen route, there is also a possibility you may be the only member of your original group following that particular option.
