Trip moments from our travelers
Before you book you should know
Is this trip right for you?
This journey covers many of the highlights of Thailand and Laos, so expect several long travel days as you move between destinations. While Thailand has well-developed tourism infrastructure, travel in Laos can be slower, with bumpy roads, occasional delays and more basic accommodation in some areas.

Your overnight stop in Pak Beng offers an authentic glimpse of rural Laos. This small riverside town has limited tourist facilities, providing a peaceful contrast to larger destinations such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang.
If you're travelling between November and February, pack warm clothing, as evenings and early mornings can be surprisingly cool.
Between March and April, seasonal agricultural burning may cause smoke haze across northern Thailand and parts of Laos, so travellers sensitive to air quality may wish to bring a high-quality face mask.
Water levels on the Mekong River can fluctuate due to upstream dam construction. During the dry season, particularly from February to April, sections of the river cruise may occasionally be replaced with overland travel by bus if conditions require.

The itinerary includes free time in several destinations, giving you the flexibility to explore independently. Your local leader will be happy to recommend activities and hidden gems, and planning ahead can help you make the most of each stop
Visa information
Visa information is provided by Sherpa, a trusted third-party. The “Add connection” feature only shows transit visa requirements and does not cover full entry visas. U.S. citizens traveling to Italy for stays under 90 days typically do not need a tourist visa. Additional service fees may apply if you choose to purchase a visa through Sherpa. Always check official sources before traveling.
Accommodation
AccommodationDuring this journey, you'll stay in a mix of hotels (9 nights), a local guesthouse (2 nights) and one overnight sleeper train, offering a combination of comfort and authentic travel experiences throughout Thailand and Laos.

Alternative AccommodationThe accommodation listed in the itinerary serves as a guide. On rare occasions, if your usual property is unavailable, a similar standard of accommodation will be provided.
Twin-Share RoomsAccommodation is based on twin-share rooms, with two travellers sharing a room unless a single supplement has been arranged.

Hotel Check-inEvery effort is made to have your room ready upon arrival, even if you reach the hotel before the standard check-in time. If your room isn't yet available, you'll be able to store your luggage securely and begin exploring your destination.
Pre- and Post-Trip StaysTravellers who book additional accommodation before or after the tour may be required to change rooms, depending on hotel availability.

Rooms in LaosSome hotels in Laos offer rooms without windows, or with windows that have limited or no external views. This is common due to local building styles and urban design. While rooms with windows are requested whenever possible, they cannot always be guaranteed
