  • After breakfast, leave Negombo behind and journey inland to Dambulla, arriving around midday after a scenic drive of approximately 4.5 hours. Once you've checked into your hotel, the afternoon is yours to enjoy at your own pace.

You may choose to relax and unwind or head out on an optional wildlife safari to one of the nearby national parks, where herds of wild elephants roam freely across the plains. • Rise early this morning to visit the iconic Sigiriya before the tropical heat sets in. Just a short drive from Dambulla, this ancient rock fortress is one of Sri Lanka’s most remarkable landmarks. Those who make the steep climb to the summit will be rewarded with spectacular views over the surrounding jungle and countryside. Be sure to wear sturdy footwear, as the ascent includes uneven steps and steep sections. If you prefer to stay closer to ground level, the landscaped gardens at the base offer excellent views and photo opportunities of the towering fortress above.

After returning to the hotel for breakfast, continue to the lakeside city of Kandy, with a journey of approximately three hours. Along the way, you may choose to stop at one of the region’s fragrant spice gardens for lunch and an introduction to Sri Lanka’s famous spices. Upon arrival in Kandy, visit the revered Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, the country's most important Buddhist shrine, where pilgrims dressed in white gather to pay their respects in a deeply spiritual atmosphere.
