SINGAPORE BITES TO PENANG SPICE

Hawker Stalls and Spice Roads

This 8-day food trip follows the flavor trail from Singapore's hawker stalls to Malaysia's markets, tea hills and spice gardens. You start with Little India and Gardens by the Bay, cross into Kuala Lumpur for roti canai, temple streets and a purpose-led dinner, then head into the Cameron Highlands before finishing in Penang, one of Southeast Asia's great food cities.

It is made for travelers who plan days around what they are going to eat next, but still want culture, neighborhoods, landscapes and local stories served alongside the plate.

Why You'll Love This Trip

This route eats its way through hawker halls, temple streets, tea country and Penang spice.
  • Singapore Hawker Start
Begin with Little India snacks, banana-leaf flavors and Singapore's famous food-hall energy.
  • Gardens And Merlion
Pair city icons with kaya toast, red tortoise cake and local street bites.
  • Kuala Lumpur Purpose Dinner
Share a home-cooked meal supporting visually impaired cooks and local community work.
  • Cameron Highlands Tea
Trade city heat for mossy forest, tea tasting and cool green hill country.
  • Penang By Trishaw
Roll past heritage streets, old buildings and food neighborhoods in a classic trishaw.
  • Spice Garden Cooking
Pick herbs, learn Malay cooking tricks and eat lunch from your own hands-on class.
This is a food-first journey with real substance: markets, temples, hawker centers, tea country, social enterprises and Penang's street-food soul. Come hungry and curious, because the best parts are often the small bites between the big stops.

Trip moments from our travelers
Before you book you should know
Is this trip right for you?
You will need to carry your own luggage throughout the trip, including short walks between accommodation and transport, moving through transport hubs and getting on and off buses, trains and ferries. Packing light will make the whole experience easier, especially in the heat.

Singapore and Malaysia are generally hot and humid, and Malaysia tends to feel wetter and steamier from May through October. Bring breathable clothing, a refillable water bottle and patience for sticky days.

This trip uses public bus and private transport. Malaysia's public buses are often spacious and comfortable, but some travel days run up to 5 hours, so snacks, water and a good playlist are your friends.

The cuisine on this route includes plenty of meat and seafood. Vegetarians and vegans should review the itinerary carefully to make sure the included meals and tastings work for them.

This is a food-focused trip, so the best experience comes from being curious, flexible and open to trying small local places, set menus, hawker stalls and dishes you may not recognize at first glance.

The joining hotel is Ibis Hotel Bencoolen, 170 Bencoolen Street, Singapore 189657. Phone: +65 6593 2888.

The guest house night is simpler than a city hotel and should be approached as part of the local travel experience rather than a luxury stay.
