TEMPLES, RAFTING, VILLAGES, CHITWAN WILDLIFE

River Roads and Jungle Nights

This 10-day Nepal adventure keeps the trip moving, but never makes it feel polished flat. You start in Kathmandu's old squares and sacred sites, walk through valley villages, sleep in quieter hill country, raft the Trisuli River and finish with Chitwan's forests, canoe rides and safari drives.

It is a hands-on route for travelers who like culture with a little dirt on their shoes, a good story at dinner and days that feel different from the one before.

Why You'll Love This Trip

Nepal gets under your skin when temples, village roads, river days and jungle evenings all share the same trip.
  • Kathmandu Street Spirit
Follow bazaar lanes, temple courtyards and prayer wheels with a leader who knows the city.
  • Balthali Hill Quiet
Trade Thamel's buzz for rice fields, village paths and wide Kathmandu Valley views.
  • Namobuddha Monastery Walk
Visit a hilltop monastery where prayer flags, village roads and mountain air meet.
  • Bhaktapur Craft Traditions
Walk through brick squares, carved windows and temple streets still shaped by local artisans.
  • Trisuli River Rush
Spend two days rafting Himalayan water, with gorges, splashy rapids and riverside downtime.
  • Chitwan Wildlife Days
Search for rhinos, crocodiles, deer and birdlife by jeep, canoe and forest paths.
This is Nepal with movement, texture and a little adrenaline: sacred Kathmandu, quiet villages, river rafting and jungle wildlife. It feels adventurous without being extreme, which makes the whole trip easy to say yes to.

Your rafting crew will run through the safety briefing and help you gear up before you get on the water. The Trisuli is a friendly introduction to whitewater, with calmer stretches, smaller rapids and plenty of gorge and valley scenery. You will spend about 4 hours on the river, stopping for lunch along the way, then stay near the riverside tonight.

Heavy rain in the days before rafting may make the activity unsafe, in which case an alternative activity will be arranged. Safety boats lead the route, kayakers shadow the rafts and guides inspect rapids before deciding whether to continue or take the smoother line.
  • Continue rafting this morning, moving through clear Himalayan water and a few playful rapids before the river section ends around lunch. After saying goodbye to the rafting crew, drive down to the lowlands and onward to Chitwan National Park. This UNESCO-listed park is one of Asia's best wildlife areas, with chances to see rhinos, deer, monkeys, birdlife and more. Your accommodation is built in traditional Tharu village style, surrounded by jungle sounds.

Trip moments from our travelers
Before you book you should know
Is this trip right for you?
Road travel in Nepal can be slow, bumpy and hard to predict. Distances that look short on a map may take much longer than expected, so a little patience and a flexible mood will make the trip more enjoyable.

This itinerary does not go to high altitude, which makes it a good option for travelers who want Nepal without the acclimatization concerns of a trekking route.

Rafting is included on the Trisuli River. If you are not a confident swimmer, speak with your leader before the activity. You can also choose to skip rafting and relax at the accommodation instead.

Outside Kathmandu and the main towns, Nepal can be quiet. Some places have limited organized activities, so part of the charm is slowing down, walking around and letting smaller cultural moments find you.

In rural or resort-style locations, meal choices may be limited and some dinners may be served as set menus rather than a la carte.

This trip includes travel by road and local conditions can affect timing. Bring practical shoes, a light rain layer, motion-sickness support if you need it and an easygoing approach.
