Trip moments from our travelers
Before you book you should know
Is this trip right for you?
The Ocean Albatros is a modern ice-strengthened expedition ship designed to navigate the unpredictable waters of Antarctica in comfort and safety. While the vessel is large and stable, rough seas are still possible, particularly when crossing the Drake Passage. Seasickness medication is usually effective, and a doctor is available onboard should you need assistance.

Weather conditions in Antarctica can change quickly — temperatures may be freezing cold one moment and surprisingly mild when the sun appears — so dressing in layers is highly recommended. Waterproof boots will be provided for excursions, along with a waterproof expedition jacket that you’ll get to keep. Please refer to the Essential Trip Information for a recommended packing list.

Throughout the expedition, you’ll regularly travel by Zodiac to explore remote landing sites and search for wildlife. Conditions can be cold and wet during these excursions, so warm waterproof clothing and protection for your camera equipment are essential. A moderate level of mobility is required for getting in and out of Zodiacs, walking on uneven terrain and navigating snowy or steep surfaces. During rough seas, elevators may occasionally be unavailable, meaning stairs will need to be used around the ship.

As with all expedition travel, weather conditions play a major role in determining the itinerary. Flexibility and a spirit of adventure are essential, as plans may change depending on sea ice, wind and wildlife conditions. Fortunately, the Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands offer hundreds of incredible landing sites, ensuring every expedition remains unique and memorable.

If weather conditions keep the group onboard, there are still plenty of ways to enjoy the journey. Relax in the ship’s library, attend educational lectures from the Expedition Team or stay active in the onboard gym while waiting for the next adventure.
Visa information
Visa information is provided by Sherpa, a trusted third-party. The “Add connection” feature only shows transit visa requirements and does not cover full entry visas. U.S. citizens traveling to Italy for stays under 90 days typically do not need a tourist visa. Additional service fees may apply if you choose to purchase a visa through Sherpa. Always check official sources before traveling.
Accommodation
Comfortable hotel (1 night), Expedition cruise ship (21 nights)
The Ocean Albatros combines modern Scandinavian design with advanced polar expedition technology, offering a comfortable and stable way to explore the remote wilderness of Antarctica. Purpose-built for polar travel, the ship features an innovative X-BOW design that improves stability in rough seas while providing smoother sailing through icy waters and access to hard-to-reach destinations.

Onboard, spacious cabins, panoramic observation areas and seamless Zodiac boarding areas are designed to make every moment of the expedition as comfortable and immersive as possible. Many cabins feature private balconies, while multiple viewing decks allow you to take in the breathtaking polar scenery from every angle.
The ship also offers a range of premium onboard amenities, including outdoor hot tubs with spectacular 360-degree views of Antarctica’s icy landscapes. Special hydraulic viewing platforms can even be lowered closer to sea level, creating unique wildlife viewing and photography opportunities rarely available on expedition vessels.
