Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting at 6 pm, where you’ll meet your group and local leader. Afterwards, head out for an included dinner to sample delicious Carioca cuisine before diving into Rio’s famous nightlife at a local samba club. Here, you’ll enjoy a fun introduction to samba – the heartbeat of Carnival. You don’t need to be a professional dancer to enjoy the festivities, but learning a few samba moves will help you join the celebrations like a true Carioca.

  • Today, explore two of the most iconic landmarks in Rio de Janeiro with your local leader. Begin with a visit to Christ the Redeemer, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Travel up Corcovado Mountain and admire breathtaking panoramic views over Rio from 710 metres above sea level while standing beneath the city’s world-famous statue.

Next, continue to Sugarloaf Mountain, rising dramatically above Guanabara Bay. Named for its resemblance to the traditional cone-shaped blocks of sugar once traded in Brazil, Sugarloaf offers spectacular coastal and city views from its summit.
This evening is free for you to enjoy Rio at your own pace. Whether you choose to explore the lively nightlife, relax by the beach or sample classic Brazilian dishes like feijoada or traditional barbecue, your leader will be happy to recommend the best local spots.

Trip moments from our travelers
Before you book you should know
Is this trip right for you?
Rio Carnival is an exciting, energetic and wonderfully chaotic celebration, and the lively atmosphere is all part of the experience. During Carnival, popular attractions, street parties and events can involve large crowds, long queues and occasional delays. Personal space may also feel very different from what you’re used to, especially at busy bloco celebrations and packed parade venues.

As many of the festivities take place late into the evening, expect a few late nights filled with music, dancing and nonstop celebration. Flexibility, patience and a sense of adventure will help you enjoy everything Carnival has to offer.

Throughout the journey, an experienced local leader will be there to guide you through the celebrations and help you make the most of your time in Rio de Janeiro. Multiple tour groups may travel during the same dates, and while there is approximately one leader for every 16 travellers, the overall experience may include more than 50 participants joining the festivities together.
Visa information
Visa information is provided by Sherpa, a trusted third-party. The “Add connection” feature only shows transit visa requirements and does not cover full entry visas. U.S. citizens traveling to Italy for stays under 90 days typically do not need a tourist visa. Additional service fees may apply if you choose to purchase a visa through Sherpa. Always check official sources before traveling.

Accommodation on this trip includes 5 nights in comfortable hotels located in Rio de Janeiro. The accommodation listed in the itinerary serves as a guideline and may occasionally change depending on availability. If necessary, alternative hotels of a similar standard and comfort level will be arranged.

Hotels are requested to have rooms ready upon the group’s arrival, especially for early check-ins, although this cannot always be guaranteed. If rooms are not immediately available, luggage storage will be provided so you can begin exploring the city or relax in shared hotel facilities until check-in time.
