  • Welcome to Georgia. Your journey begins in the vibrant capital of Tbilisi—a picturesque city known for its cobbled Old Town and layered history. Shaped by Persian and Russian influences, the city showcases a unique mix of architecture, from elegant Art Nouveau facades to Soviet-era landmarks and traditional Orthodox churches. Overlooking it all stands Narikala Fortress, originally built in the 4th century.
    In the evening, meet your tour leader and fellow travelers at a welcome meeting at your hotel. Afterward, enjoy an included dinner together, where you’ll get your first taste of Georgian cuisine, including local favorites like adjarian khachapuri—a boat-shaped bread filled with melted cheese, topped with egg yolk and butter.

Begin in the Old Town, wandering through narrow streets lined with colorful houses, carved wooden balconies, and a blend of historic and modern architecture leading up to the ancient Narikala Fortress. From the fortress walls, enjoy panoramic views over the city and surrounding hills.
    Continue to the lively Dezertir Bazaar, one of Tbilisi’s most vibrant markets, where locals shop for fresh produce, spices, homemade cheeses, churchkhela, and a wide variety of Georgian specialties—an experience full of sights, smells, and flavors.
    Afterward, enjoy an included lunch at a local restaurant, sampling traditional dishes such as lobio (bean stew), pkhali (vegetables with walnuts), and a selection of pickles and fresh salads.

  • Enjoy a free morning in Telavi before joining your leader for a visit to the local market. Experience the lively atmosphere of the stalls, then continue to a local cheesemaker’s farm for a tour and tasting of regional cheeses.
    Afterward, travel to the scenic Pankisi Valley, where you’ll stay in a guesthouse surrounded by mountains. Your host family are Kists—descendants of highland Chechens—who have lived here for generations. Upon arrival, take in the peaceful surroundings and join a cooking class to prepare traditional dishes like zhizhig galnash (handmade noodles with lamb) and chaabilgish (pumpkin-filled flatbread).
    In the evening, relax and enjoy the warm hospitality of your hosts.

    For lunch, enjoy ostri (spicy beef stew) served with freshly baked shoti bread. Continue your journey to Gudauri, with a stop at the impressive Ananuri Fortress Complex. Set along the turquoise Aragvi River, this historic site offers stunning views—don’t forget your camera.

  • Start the day with a scenic drive to Stepantsminda. From here, hike through beautiful valleys and woodland to the iconic Gergeti Trinity Church. If the weather is clear, you may catch views of Mount Kazbegi (5,047 m), one of the highest peaks in the Caucasus.
    Afterward, visit a local family near Gudauri and take part in a hands-on masterclass to learn how to make khinkali, Georgia’s famous dumplings.
    Return to Gudauri in the late afternoon and enjoy a free evening at your leisure.

    While today’s hike isn’t long, being at an altitude of 2170 m does make it more challenging. If you’d prefer not to hike, it’s possible to hire a 4WD to drive you up to Gergeti Trinity Church. Your leader can arrange this for you, with the additional cost paid locally.
  • Return to Tbilisi this morning, stopping in Mtskheta along the way—one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Visit Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, set at the meeting point of the Mtkvari and Aragvi Rivers.
    Continue to Tbilisi, where you’ll have free time to relax or explore. You might choose to visit the famous sulphur baths, stroll along the river, or stop by Fabrika for coffee and local art.
    In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner at a traditional Georgian restaurant and raise a glass to the journey.

Is this trip right for you?
  • The cuisine of the Caucasus region includes a lot of meat. For vegetarians and vegans we recommend reviewing the itinerary and inclusions to ensure that you will be able to fully participate and enjoy this trip. We also have many other trips to the Caucasus region which can accommodate a range of dietary requirements.
  • The diversity of the seasons here makes for incredible scenery, but the weather in this region can be unpredictable. It’s best to wear layers at all times of the year in case conditions change. There may occasionally be itinerary changes due to road closures.
  • This trip involves a reasonable amount of walking so be sure to bring sturdy walking shoes and comfortable clothes. To make the most of the trip, it's best if you have at least a moderate level of fitness. There is an included hike on Day 6, at an altitude of 2170m. Please refer to the Itinerary for more details.
Visa information
Visa details are provided through Sherpa, a third-party service. The “Add connection” feature only shows transit visa requirements, not full entry visas. Additional service fees apply if you purchase a visa via Sherpa.

The style of accommodation indicated in the day-to-day itinerary is a guideline only and may change. On some occasions, alternative arrangements may need to be made due to the lack of availability of rooms in our preferred accommodation. In these cases, we will use a similar standard of accommodation.
Throughout the trip, we request that our properties prepare rooms in time for our arrival, especially if we're arriving prior to normal check-in time. However, this isn't always possible which means we won't be able to check-in immediately on arrival at some hotels. Instead, we can store our luggage and explore our new destination or on some trips, have use of shared day rooms until all rooms are available.

Instructions
Please make sure that you provide your flight details no later than 14 days before departure to book your arrival transfer with us.
For your confirmed arrival transfer, you’ll be met in the arrivals hall of Tbilisi International Airport (TBS) by a transfer representative holding an Intrepid sign. In case of flight cancellations, changes, if you experience severe delays at immigration, baggage collection or customs, or if you are not able to find the driver, please call +995 595 200 050
Alternatively, you can take public transport or a taxi. Take a licensed taxi with a meter, avoid any drivers who approach you directly. The journey takes about 30 minutes and the fare will be approximately GEL50-70.
You can take public bus #337 from Tbilisi International Airport and go out at National Gallery station which is 1 km away from hotel. It takes approximately 1hour and 15 min to get to hotel by bus.
