Tour program
  • Mhoro! Welcome to Zimbabwe.
Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting at 4 pm in Victoria Falls — the lively town that serves as the gateway to this world-famous natural wonder. If you arrive early, you might take a scenic helicopter flight over the falls, explore the town centre or check out the local restaurants and breweries. After the meeting, get to know your fellow travellers over dinner at a nearby restaurant.
  • Accommodation
    • Camping (with facilities) (1 night)
  • Meals
There are no meals included on this day.
  • Special information
It’s essential that you attend the welcome meeting, as we’ll be collecting insurance details and next-of-kin information at this time. If you expect to be late, please inform your travel agent in advance, and check with reception or look for a notice regarding the meeting location.

Accommodation upgrades and Wi-Fi are available during your stay.
While in the area, you may see operators offering a “Walk with the Lions” experience. We strongly discourage participation, as it does not align with responsible travel practices and contributes to unethical wildlife activities such as captive breeding and canned hunting. We encourage observing animals in their natural habitats with respect.
If you choose to take a scenic helicopter flight over Victoria Falls, we recommend booking with Zambezi Helicopter Company, the only operator endorsed for safety and quality.
  • Today is yours to explore at your own pace. You might choose to visit Victoria Falls — a breathtaking 1.5 km-wide curtain of water plunging 108 metres into the gorge below. In the wet season, powerful spray rises high into the air, while in the dry season, clearer views reveal rocky islets in the river beneath. For the best experiences and local insights, be sure to ask your leader for recommendations on how to make the most of your day.

Please note that the entrance fee to Victoria Falls is not included. Group tickets require a guided visit, so leaving this optional allows you to explore the falls at your own pace and in your own way.
Not all local activities have been risk assessed, and only those listed as Optional Activities are officially recommended. In line with company policy, leaders cannot assist with booking experiences that do not meet Responsible Travel standards, including arranging transport to and from them.

Trip moments from our travelers
Before you book you should know
Is this trip right for you?
This is an overland adventure, meaning you’ll travel as a group in a purpose-built vehicle, visit remote communities, set up your own tent (unless on an Original or Comfort style trip), and occasionally embrace the basics of life in the bush. It’s all part of getting closer to nature and experiencing Africa in a more authentic way.

While the trucks don’t have air conditioning, sliding windows provide a refreshing breeze and great opportunities to capture incredible wildlife photos. Drive days can be long, but the journey — and the connections you build along the way — are just as rewarding as the destinations.
There are plenty of optional activities available throughout the trip, so it’s worth factoring these into your budget in advance. Early starts are also part of the experience — giving you the best chance to spot wildlife during peak safari hours or avoid traffic on longer travel days.

You may also be joined by travellers who have been on the road together before your trip begins. If you’d like to extend your adventure, consider joining a longer itinerary, such as the Cape Town to Zanzibar route, for an even deeper exploration of Africa.
Visa information
Visa information is provided by Sherpa, a trusted third-party. The “Add connection” feature only shows transit visa requirements and does not cover full entry visas. U.S. citizens traveling to Italy for stays under 90 days typically do not need a tourist visa. Additional service fees may apply if you choose to purchase a visa through Sherpa. Always check official sources before traveling.
Accommodation
Accommodation on this trip consists of camping with facilities (16 nights), with most nights spent in two-person canvas dome tents equipped with camping mattresses.

The style of accommodation varies depending on the route and location. While many nights are spent at campsites or occasional wild camps, hotel stays may be used when traveling through towns or cities, where camping isn’t always practical. Meals in these areas are typically enjoyed at local restaurants.

On some nights, campsites may be located within hotel grounds, where rooms or cabins could be available. In these cases, you may have the option to upgrade from camping to a room (subject to availability), usually costing around USD 40–100 per twin room per night. These upgrades cannot be pre-booked, and standards can vary, so it’s recommended to view the room before deciding.
Please note that some accommodation may be dormitory-style, meaning you could share with other travellers or be placed in same-sex rooms. Campsite facilities are generally more basic than in Western countries — bathrooms can be simple, hot water is not always guaranteed, and toilet paper is often not provided. Wild camps have no facilities at all.

Spare tents may be carried on the vehicle but cannot be used without purchasing a single supplement, as they are reserved to maintain equipment quality for future travellers.
Flights
Please note: flight arrangements

We can assist with booking flights from any airport in the United States that is convenient for you. Occasionally, alternative routing or airlines may need to be arranged due to availability, but we will always ensure your flights align with your tour dates and provide the same level of comfort and reliability. Our goal is to make your journey to Italy smooth, stress-free, and perfectly timed with your tour.
