Tour program
  • Ki kati! Welcome to Uganda. Your adventure begins at 9 am this morning at your joining point hotel, where you’ll be picked up and set off toward Lake Mburo National Park.
This unique park is characterized by acacia woodland, setting it apart from many other East African reserves — and giving rise to a different mix of wildlife. It’s one of the best places in Uganda to spot the impressive eland antelope and is home to around 68 species of mammals, including zebras, impalas, buffalo, leopards, hyenas and jackals.
Within the park, five lakes provide a haven for hippos, crocodiles and a wide variety of birdlife, while the papyrus swamps shelter rare species like the sitatunga antelope and colorful papyrus gonalek. Less visited than other parks in the region, Lake Mburo offers a more peaceful and intimate safari experience.
On arrival, head straight out on a game drive to spot wildlife before continuing to Mbarara, where you’ll settle into your accommodation for the night.

  • Rise early this morning and journey toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, one of Africa’s most biodiverse regions and home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. This dense rainforest is rich in wildlife and offers a truly immersive natural experience.

The afternoon is free for you to relax or explore the surrounding area. You may choose to join an optional visit to Mikozi Village, where you’ll experience everyday life in the Ugandan countryside — from local markets to meeting a traditional healer and enjoying a drink at a local bar.

These gentle giants allow you to observe them up close, offering a rare and deeply moving wildlife experience. You’ll spend one incredible hour with the gorillas, watching their behavior in their natural habitat.

Trip moments from our travelers
Before you book you should know
Is this trip right for you?
1. Gorilla trekking conditions
Trekking to find the gorillas can be physically demanding and may involve long hikes through dense forest, often in humid and uneven terrain.
2. Gorilla permit & upgrade option
You’ll spend one hour with the gorillas, with the option to add a second trek on Day 2. This will adjust your itinerary, replacing Lake Mburo with an additional night in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. We recommend booking permits at least three weeks in advance, as availability is limited. Local booking may offer different pricing, but cannot be guaranteed.
3. Travel time
Day 4 includes a longer travel day as you return to Kampala.
4. Independent travel style
This is an Independent Short Break, offering flexibility and free time while all key arrangements are taken care of. You won’t travel with a dedicated tour leader — instead, activities and transfers are operated by local partners on a shared (join-in) basis. Some parts of your journey may be private, while others may include fellow travellers. If you prefer a fully guided group experience, your booking agent can suggest alternative options.
Visa information
Visa information is provided by Sherpa, a trusted third-party. The “Add connection” feature only shows transit visa requirements and does not cover full entry visas. U.S. citizens traveling to Italy for stays under 90 days typically do not need a tourist visa. Additional service fees may apply if you choose to purchase a visa through Sherpa. Always check official sources before traveling.
Accommodation
Lodge (3 nights)
If you require a Sleep Apnea Machine to sleep please ensure that it is battery operated. Lodges and Permanent Tented Camps are often powered by generators which are turned off during the night.
Flights
Please note: flight arrangements

We can assist with booking flights from any airport in the United States that is convenient for you. Occasionally, alternative routing or airlines may need to be arranged due to availability, but we will always ensure your flights align with your tour dates and provide the same level of comfort and reliability. Our goal is to make your journey to Italy smooth, stress-free, and perfectly timed with your tour.
