  • Special information
It’s important to attend the welcome meeting at the beginning of your trip — during this time, your leader will collect your travel insurance and emergency contact details. If you think you might arrive late, please let your travel agent or the hotel reception know in advance. You can also check with reception or look for a note posted in the lobby for details about the meeting’s time and location.
  • Start your day with a guided orientation walk through central Tirana, where layers of history reveal themselves in every corner. Admire the blend of Italian and Ottoman influences, pass by the iconic Skanderbeg Monument, the striking mosaic of the National History Museum, and the grand Palace of Culture. Although the Et'hem Bey Mosque is currently closed for renovations, you can still appreciate its beautifully detailed frescoes and elegant portico, decorated with scenes of nature.

After lunch, hop on a local bus and travel to Shkoder — one of Europe’s oldest and most culturally rich cities. Upon arrival, enjoy a relaxed stroll along the Pjaca, the city’s main pedestrian street, lined with charming 19th-century buildings and anchored by the impressive Ebu Beker Mosque.
In the afternoon, consider heading just outside the city to explore Rozafa Castle, a historic fortress perched high above the landscape, offering sweeping views over the surrounding countryside — the kind that quietly steals your breath away.

  • Set off early this morning for Lake Koman, where a private boat awaits to carry you between Koman and Fierza in Albania’s remote northeastern corner. As you cruise through the dramatic gorges of the Albanian Alps, pause along the way for refreshments and even a refreshing swim.
Surrounded by towering cliffs and untouched wilderness, the lake feels like a hidden world — with peaks rising over 1,700 meters and barely a trace of human presence. Expect shimmering emerald waters, lush greenery, and striking white rock faces at every turn — easily one of the most unforgettable boat journeys you’ll ever experience.
On arrival in Fierza, continue to your guesthouse in the peaceful Valbona Valley, where a warm welcome and a hearty homemade dinner await.

  • Venture deeper into the remote beauty of Valbona Valley, where rolling green meadows are scattered with traditional homes, farmland, and alpine trees. Thanks to the region’s isolation and limited турист infrastructure, today unfolds as a true adventure — even your leader won’t know exactly what’s in store.
You might set off on a hike through sweeping valleys and dense forests, or simply spend time in the village, soaking up the peaceful rhythm of local life. In Albania, it’s the people who truly make the experience unforgettable — their warmth and openness turn strangers into storytellers over a shared glass (or two) of raki.
This is your chance to hear Albania’s past firsthand, through the voices of those who’ve lived it. You may also uncover stories of the Kanun — the ancient code that once governed life in the mountains, including the infamous blood feuds that shaped generations.

  • Today, cross the border into Kosovo by private vehicle and step into Europe’s youngest officially recognized country. Small yet striking, Kosovo is a land of rugged mountains, poppy-filled meadows, and oak forests tucked into the heart of the Balkans. Once overshadowed by the conflicts of the late 1990s, the country is now revealing a renewed spirit — one you’ll feel as you explore.
Visit the Dečani Monastery, a site of remarkable artistic heritage. While it stands as an important symbol of Serbian Orthodox culture, its significance has also made it vulnerable over time.
Continue to Peja (known as Peć in Serbian), a lively town at the foot of the Rugova Mountains and an important agricultural hub. Stroll through the beautifully restored Peja Bazaar, a charming reminder of Ottoman times, and visit the Bajrakli Mosque. Though the bazaar was destroyed twice in the past century, it has been carefully rebuilt following the Kosovo War and now stands as one of the country’s protected cultural treasures.

Today’s travel time will be approximately 2.5 hours.

At your hotel in Peja, the on-site restaurant also serves as a wedding venue for locals from nearby villages. While this offers a unique glimpse into local traditions and celebrations, it may come with some evening noise. Embrace the lively atmosphere and the joy of such a special occasion — but if you’re a light sleeper, it’s a good idea to bring earplugs just in case.
  • After breakfast, travel to the village of Drelaj, tucked deep within the Rugova Valley. Towering above you, the Rugova Mountains rise to over 2,400 meters and have been protected as a national park since 2013. From here, set out on a guided hike through some of Kosovo’s most breathtaking landscapes.
Often compared to Switzerland, the valley unfolds in a patchwork of tall grass meadows, wildflowers, rustic wooden huts, and the gentle sound of cowbells echoing through the air beneath the slopes of Hjala Mountain.
After your hike, slow things down with a well-earned lunch at a local family home — simple, authentic, and full of flavor. Return to your hotel in the early evening, and if you feel like it, unwind with a glass of Birra Peja, the local brew crafted right here in town.

Speak with your leader for a clear overview of the route and decide whether you’d like to take part.
  • Travel south today to Prizren — Kosovo’s second-largest city and, many would say, its most beautiful. Along the way, stop in Gjakova to visit the Sufi Tekke of the Halveti Order, a spiritual site dating back to the 17th century, where the graves of past sheikhs rest within its peaceful walls.
Continue with a walk along the lively Çarshia (main street) and visit the historic Hadumi Mosque. If you’re fortunate, you may even meet the local Imam, who can share insights into Islamic beliefs and traditions, with time for questions and discussion.
Later, make your way to Prizren, pausing for a scenic meal by the Drini River. Upon arrival, enjoy an orientation walk along the Bistrica River, where you’ll explore the city’s elegant mosques and discover the layered history reflected in its abandoned Serbian Orthodox churches.

Afterwards, enjoy a free day to explore at your own pace. You might visit the House of the Albanian League of Prizren, where in 1878 Albanian leaders gathered in a historic effort to unite and defend their land. Or take a peaceful walk along the Bistrica River, where you may spot locals tending their sheep in the surrounding hills.
If you’re in the mood for something indulgent, gather your group and head out to the vineyards of Rahovec, known as the gastronomic heart of the region. With its inviting wineries and local restaurants, it’s the perfect place to unwind and savor the flavors of Prizren. 🍷

  • Take a day trip to Prishtina, Kosovo’s capital, a city in the midst of reinventing itself as a dynamic commercial and cultural hub. Begin at Kosovo Polje — the Field of Blackbirds — the historic site that gave the country its name. Here, you’ll find a memorial to the pivotal 1389 Battle of Kosovo, a turning point that led to Ottoman rule across the region. Nearby stands the tomb of Sultan Murat, the 14th-century Ottoman ruler.
Continue to the UNESCO-listed Gračanica Monastery, a beautifully preserved example of medieval Serbian architecture. Afterwards, enjoy free time to explore the city at your own pace. You might visit the Ethnographic Museum, the Sultan Fatih Mosque, or the Kosovo Museum, each offering a different window into the country’s rich heritage. Don’t miss the Newborn Monument — a bold symbol unveiled on the day Kosovo declared independence in 2008.
Before returning, head to the nearby Bear Sanctuary, a peaceful 16-hectare woodland that provides a safe haven for rescued dancing bears — a moving and meaningful end to your day.

Archaeological discoveries here date back to Neolithic times, adding even more depth to its story. Despite being a UNESCO World Heritage site for over three decades, Ohrid still feels like a hidden gem waiting to be explored.

Travel Smart & Stay Comfortable 🎒
Please pack light and keep your luggage manageable. You’ll be using public transport where space is limited, so be prepared to lift your bag, roll it over cobblestone streets, and carry it up and down stairs when needed.
Weather across this region can be a bit of a wild card. In summer, temperatures can soar above 40°C, so bring sun protection, wear light layers, and stay hydrated. At the same time, mountain areas can feel like a different season altogether — cooler, wetter, and unpredictable — so it’s wise to pack for contrast and plan according to the time of year.
  • Also, keep in mind that many European hotels offer twin beds rather than one double — two singles that can be placed together — a small detail that’s surprisingly common across the continent.
Visa information
Visa information is provided by Sherpa, a trusted third-party. The “Add connection” feature only shows transit visa requirements and does not cover full entry visas. U.S. citizens traveling to Italy for stays under 90 days typically do not need a tourist visa. Additional service fees may apply if you choose to purchase a visa through Sherpa. Always check official sources before traveling.
Accommodation
Where You’ll Stay & What to Expect

Accommodation Style
Enjoy a mix of comfort and local charm with 10 nights in hotels and 4 nights in guesthouses, giving you a balance of convenience and authentic experience.
Occasional Changes
While the itinerary lists our preferred accommodation, there may be rare occasions when we need to arrange an alternative due to availability. If so, rest assured it will be of a similar standard.
Twin Share Basis
Rooms are typically on a twin or multishare basis. Solo travellers will be paired with someone of the same gender (based on passport details). At times, facilities may be shared rather than ensuite, and in rare cases, you may share with travellers from another group.
Check-In Flexibility
We always aim for rooms to be ready upon arrival, but early check-in isn’t guaranteed. If needed, you can store your luggage and head out to explore while rooms are being prepared.
Pre & Post Trip Stays
If you’ve booked extra nights before or after the trip, you may need to switch rooms, depending on hotel availability.
Facilities
Keep in mind that not all accommodations will have private bathrooms or air-conditioning. It’s also common in Europe for hotels not to provide kettles or mini-fridges — a small cultural quirk to be aware of.

Flights
Please note: flight arrangements

We can assist with booking flights from any airport in the United States that is convenient for you. Occasionally, alternative routing or airlines may need to be arranged due to availability, but we will always ensure your flights align with your tour dates and provide the same level of comfort and reliability. Our goal is to make your journey to Italy smooth, stress-free, and perfectly timed with your tour.
