Tour program
  • Dobro došli — welcome to Croatia! Your journey begins in Dubrovnik, a stunning stone city wrapped in ancient medieval walls and set against the shimmering Adriatic Sea. Full of charm and easy to explore on foot, it’s the perfect place to start your adventure.
Your trip kicks off with a welcome meeting at 6:30 pm, but if you arrive early, take the chance to wander along the iconic city walls and soak in the views. After meeting your group, head out for dinner and get to know your fellow travellers. Croatian cuisine varies by region, but one beloved staple is charcuterie — a rich selection of expertly cured meats, each with its own distinct flavor shaped by traditional preservation methods.

  • Meals
There are no meals included on this day.
  • Special information
It’s important to attend the welcome meeting at the beginning of your trip — during this time, your leader will collect your travel insurance and emergency contact details. If you think you might arrive late, please let your travel agent or the hotel reception know in advance. You can also check with reception or look for a note posted in the lobby for details about the meeting’s time and location.

Venice is one of Italy’s busiest destinations, and some attractions can sell out fast. If you’d like to visit St. Mark’s Basilica or climb the Bell Tower, it’s a good idea to book tickets early at www.basilicasanmarco.it.

If you plan to explore the Doge’s Palace, we recommend scheduling your visit today (if you’re staying longer in Venice) or tomorrow after 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance at palazzoducale.visitmuve.it.
  • After breakfast, head to the village of Tici in the scenic Luštica Bay near Kotor for a visit to a local olive farm. Learn the craft of olive oil production from your hosts, who continue a proud second-generation tradition of organic farming. Stroll through peaceful olive groves before reaching a historic stone mill, where olives were once pressed by hand.
Enjoy a guided tasting that reveals the secrets of high-quality olive oil, paired with local specialties like cured ham, cheese, and traditional grape brandy.
Back in Kotor, take time to wander the maze-like streets of the Old Town or hike up the hills for panoramic views and the remains of ancient fortifications. With the evening free, treat yourself to dinner at a cozy local wine bar and soak in the atmosphere of this charming coastal town.

Today is yours to explore at your own pace. Stroll through the lively Old Bazaar in search of unique finds, or join your leader on an optional excursion to Lake Ohrid and the renowned Sveti Naum Monastery — one of North Macedonia’s most important pilgrimage sites. Along the way, take in landmarks like Tsar Samoil’s Fortress, perched above the town, and the ancient Roman theatre dating back over 2,000 years. Don’t miss the iconic Church of St. John at Kaneo, dramatically set on a cliff overlooking the lake.

Trip moments from our travelers
Before you book you should know
Is this trip right for you?
Balkan cuisine is heavily focused on meat and seafood, so vegetarians and vegans should review the itinerary carefully to ensure it suits their needs. Alternatively, we offer other Balkan trips that better accommodate a wider range of dietary preferences.
Summer temperatures can rise to 40°C (105°F) or higher in some regions, so be prepared with sun protection, light clothing, and plenty of water. It’s important to consider the time of year you travel and whether you’re comfortable with the seasonal conditions.

The region is known for its hilly, mountainous terrain, often with stairs and cobblestone streets. You should be comfortable carrying your luggage up and down inclines, so packing light is highly recommended. Please note that cobblestones can be slippery when wet, and some travellers may find the terrain physically demanding.
Visa information
Visa information is provided by Sherpa, a trusted third-party. The “Add connection” feature only shows transit visa requirements and does not cover full entry visas. U.S. citizens traveling to Italy for stays under 90 days typically do not need a tourist visa. Additional service fees may apply if you choose to purchase a visa through Sherpa. Always check official sources before traveling.
Accommodation
Hotel Accommodation (8 nights)
The accommodation listed in the daily itinerary serves as a guideline and may occasionally change. In rare cases, if our preferred hotels are unavailable, alternative properties of a similar standard will be arranged.

We always request early room preparation, especially when arriving before standard check-in time. However, this cannot be guaranteed. If rooms are not ready upon arrival, you’ll be able to store your luggage and start exploring, or in some cases, use shared day rooms until check-in becomes available.
Flights
Please note: flight arrangements

We can assist with booking flights from any airport in the United States that is convenient for you. Occasionally, alternative routing or airlines may need to be arranged due to availability, but we will always ensure your flights align with your tour dates and provide the same level of comfort and reliability. Our goal is to make your journey to Italy smooth, stress-free, and perfectly timed with your tour.

Important notes

1. A single supplement is available if you’d prefer not to share a room on this trip. The single supplement is subject to availability. Please speak to your booking agent for further information.
2. Please note that the physical rating for this trip is set at 2. While this is correct for the overall trip, there are some components that are of a higher physical rating. Both the climb to the summit of Mt Vesuvius and the hike on the Path of the Gods (Sentiero degli Dei) require a certain amount of fitness. Please read the day-to-day itinerary carefully or speak to your leader for more details. Activities can be opted out of if you don't want to participate.
3. You don't have a lot of time in Rome at the start of the trip, so if you're keen to explore this spectacular city in depth we recommend you arrive a day or two before the start of the trip, especially if you would like to see the Vatican Museum as it is closed most Sundays.
