Tour program
  • Welcome to Finland — or as the locals say, Tervetuloa! Your family trip begins in Helsinki, where you’ll meet your tour leader and the other families at 5 pm. Arriving earlier in the day? You might want to check out Helsinki Cathedral, browse the stalls around Kauppatori Market Square, or ease into Finnish life with a traditional sauna session alongside the locals. After the welcome meeting, there’s also the option to head out for dinner together and start getting to know the families you’ll be sharing the adventure with.
  • Accommodation
    Hotel Arthur (1 night)
  • Meals
There are no meals included on this day.
  • Special information
Please make sure you’re at the welcome meeting, as this is when we’ll collect your travel insurance details and emergency contact information. If your arrival is delayed, let your travel agent or the hotel front desk know as soon as you can. For the exact meeting spot, check with reception or look for a note posted in the hotel lobby.
  • After breakfast, set out with your local leader for a relaxed walking tour through Finland’s capital. From there, you’ll head to Suomenlinna Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site spread across a group of islands just off the coast. Walk through the historic sea fortress with your leader, enjoy wide-open views of Helsinki and the surrounding water, and get a better feel for the city’s layered past. Later, you’ll ride the ferry back to central Helsinki, where the afternoon is yours to pick up snacks, keep exploring, and have dinner before boarding the overnight Santa Claus Express train to Kolari.

  • Special information
The double-decker overnight train is a comfortable and memorable way to make the journey north to Lapland. Families will stay in sleeper cabins, usually arranged as twin-share, with interconnecting cabins available for larger families when possible. Each cabin comes with heating, Wi-Fi, power outlets, and large windows, so you can watch the Finnish landscapes pass by — and maybe even catch the northern lights if they decide to show up. Shared bathrooms are located at the end of each carriage, and there is also a restaurant car onboard.

Breakfast is not included when you arrive the next morning, so we recommend picking something up in town before departure or planning to use the train’s restaurant carriage.
  • After your overnight train adventure, you’ll arrive in Kolari this morning, where a transfer will be ready to take your family to your accommodation in Levi. Once you’ve settled in, there will be time to slow down, rest, and recharge after the journey north. In the afternoon, join your leader for a gondola ride and a short guided walk, taking in the surrounding scenery and the soft glow of the midnight sun. This evening, you may want to keep exploring Levi and find a cozy local spot to try some Finnish dishes for dinner.

Later in the day, you could hike the trails of Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, try mountain biking through the scenic countryside, or see the landscape from a whole new angle on a zip-line adventure. This evening, consider settling in at a local restaurant for dinner — your leader will be happy to point you toward the best spots in town.

  • This morning, you’ll make your way to Halipuu Forest, a peaceful woodland with a special family story behind it. When you arrive, you’ll meet the family who owns the land and learn how they’re helping protect the forest, raise awareness about nature conservation, and keep local trees from being cut down. Then it’s time to do as the Finns do — hug a few trees, slow your breathing, and settle into the calm of the forest before being tucked into a hammock for the Finnish experience known as arctic cocooning. Afterward, gather around the fire for a warm cup of hot chocolate and a campfire lunch of lapp-dogs — reindeer sausages wrapped in bread dough and roasted over the flames. Later in the day, continue on to Rovaniemi, where you’ll stay for the next two nights.

There will also be time to meet the family’s animals, including their gentle therapy sheep. Later, enjoy a homemade lunch together and taste the kampanisu pastries you baked earlier. Trip moments from our travelers
Before you book you should know
Is this trip right for you?
In Finland, the midnight sun usually lasts about 45 days, from late May through mid-July. During this time, the sun stays above the horizon, filling the days and nights with soft, endless light. Across Lapland, forests, lakes, and fells come alive with fresh greenery, wildflowers, and plenty of chances to hike, kayak, canoe, and bike. It’s also a wonderful season to slow down, enjoy Finnish traditions, and spend meaningful time in nature.
Visa information
Visa details are provided through Sherpa, a third-party service. The “Add connection” feature only shows transit visa requirements, not full entry visas. Additional service fees apply if you purchase a visa via Sherpa.
Accommodation
Hotel (5 nights), Overnight sleeper train (1 night)
We’ve chosen the accommodations for this trip with care, selecting the best available options that fit EurotourClub’s style of travel. That said, hotel standards in Europe can feel a little different from what you may be used to back home. Some accommodations may not always include private en suite bathrooms or air-conditioning. European hotels also don’t typically provide in-room kettles or mini-fridges, and in certain destinations, rooms can be on the smaller side.
Check-in time
Throughout the trip, we ask our hotels to have rooms ready for our arrival, especially when we get there before the usual check-in time. While they do their best, early check-in isn’t always possible. In that case, we’ll leave our luggage safely at the hotel and head out to start exploring our new destination.
Pre- and post-trip accommodation
If you’ve booked extra nights before or after the tour, where available, please note that you may need to switch rooms between your additional stay and the accommodation used during the main trip.

Instructions
From Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport (HEL), the easiest option is to take the train to Helsinki Central Railway Station. You can also use public bus No. 615 or the Finnair Bus, both of which travel to Rautatientori, the city’s railway square. The journey usually takes around 35 minutes, and trains and buses run frequently.
From the railway station, the hotel is about a 5-minute walk. Exit toward the square on the eastern side of the station. With the railway station behind you, take Vilhonkatu Street from the upper left corner of the square. Continue until you reach the metro station at the corner of Vilhonkatu and Kaisaniemenkatu. Turn left there and walk toward Kaisaniemi Park. Hotel Arthur will be on the next corner on your right. You can also take a taxi directly from the airport to the hotel.
Pre-booked arrival transfer from Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport (HEL)
If you have arranged an arrival transfer in advance, your driver will meet you in the arrivals hall near the airport exit doors. They will be holding a sign with the EurotourClub logo or your name on it. If your flight is canceled or changed, you face a long delay at immigration, baggage claim, or customs, or you cannot find your driver, please contact the transfer operator directly at +358 50 545 5454.
